CM Bhagwant Mann Accuses BJP of Targeting Him with CBI for Punjab Rights

The CSR Journal Magazine

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has alleged that the BJP-led Central Government is targeting him through the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as a result of his advocacy for Punjab’s rights. He stated that he would not sacrifice the interests of the state or the dignity of its populace. Mann made these comments on Saturday during a Lok Milni event in Ballaran, located in Sangrur district.

His remarks follow the CBI’s recent registration of a corruption case involving his officer on special duty and five others, acting on the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The agency has reportedly conducted searches at multiple locations in this regard. “I am fighting for the rights of Punjab, and that is why the BJP has sent the ED and CBI after me,” he stated during the event.

Mann accused the BJP of allegedly misusing federal agencies to exert political pressure on those advocating for state rights. He asserted, “Those who raise their voice for Punjab and refuse to compromise on its interests are being subjected to political pressure. But I will never surrender the rights of Punjab or the dignity of its people for personal comfort.”

Achievements and Commitments of the State Government

The Chief Minister highlighted his government’s achievements, mentioning that over 70,680 jobs have been provided without any bribes or recommendations. He also noted the launch of the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, aimed at enhancing the welfare of women in Punjab. “My honesty is my greatest wealth, and the love and trust of three crore Punjabis are my real strength,” he remarked.

Mann indicated that his commitment extends beyond mere political ambitions. “My stake is not in buses, sand, contracts or roadside vending stalls. My stake lies in the joys and sorrows of the people of Punjab. Their hopes are my responsibility, and their struggles are my own,” he emphasised. His administration has been framed as one devoted to public service, with this ethos guiding its policies and actions.

In his address, Mann also critiqued the Opposition, claiming their primary focus is to assume power for their own benefit, rather than to serve the people of Punjab. He stated, “Punjab has suffered enough under politics driven by vested interests. The people want honest leadership, opportunities for their children and a government that stands beside them in difficult times.”

Focus on Public Welfare and Development

Mann asserted that for the first time in Punjab, government jobs are being awarded without the influence of bribery or political connections. He mentioned that every rupee collected from taxpayers is being used judiciously for public welfare initiatives. More than 90 per cent of households in Punjab are reportedly receiving free electricity, with farmers now being provided power during daylight hours.

He claimed that his government has worked diligently to alleviate financial burdens on families and enhance public services through improved infrastructure in roads, education, and healthcare. The closure of toll plazas, he noted, is reportedly saving commuters approximately Rs 70 lakh daily. “Public money must serve public interests,” he maintained.

Mann concluded by reiterating that his administration aims to ensure that the benefits of development are accessible to ordinary families, rather than concentrating them among a privileged few. The event was largely a platform for Mann to defend his government while linking criticisms of his aide to political maneuvering against his administration.
