Katie Zacharia Appointed As New White House Press Secretary

The CSR Journal Magazine

Katie Zacharia has been named the new White House press secretary by US President Donald Trump, taking over from Karoline Leavitt. This appointment positions Zacharia, a lawyer and conservative commentator, at the forefront of the administration’s communication strategy. The announcement was made by Trump on Truth Social, where he expressed his trust in her abilities to convey the administration’s message effectively to both the public and the media. Zacharia expressed gratitude for the role, calling it an “honour of a lifetime.”

Career Background of Zacharia

Zacharia holds a considerable background in political communications and law. She is currently a senior communications adviser at Trump Media & Technology Group, which operates Truth Social. Her career includes appearances as a commentator on prominent conservative television channels such as Fox News and Newsmax, where she provided insights on political issues. Prior to her current role, she briefly served as a spokesperson and deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at the US Department of Homeland Security, where she worked for a short duration before her departure in March 2026.

In addition to her roles in media and government, Zacharia has been actively involved in Donald Trump’s political campaigns, particularly focusing on critical battleground states during the 2024 presidential election cycle. Her professional experience also encompasses conservative advocacy and communications, which have contributed to her extensive expertise in the political arena.

Zacharia pursued her education in political science at Pepperdine University, later obtaining her law degree from the Caruso School of Law at the same institution. Her early engagement with politics includes an internship at the White House during the presidency of George W. Bush, which allowed her to gain insight into the workings of the federal government.

Transition From Karoline Leavitt

Zacharia succeeds Karoline Leavitt, who held the position of White House press secretary for about a year. Leavitt was notable for being the first individual to serve in this capacity during Trump’s second term, starting in January 2025. Before her appointment as press secretary, Leavitt had been actively involved in Trump’s presidential campaign as the national press secretary during the 2024 election.

Leavitt’s decision to step down came in August 2026 when she expressed a desire to dedicate more time to her family. Her departure marks a significant transition in the administration’s communications team. Following her exit from the White House, Leavitt will be transitioning to Fox News, where she is set to join as an on-air contributor starting November 1, 2026.

The appointment of Zacharia is a step towards reinforcing Trump’s communications strategy ahead of potential campaign activities while also marking a new chapter in the administration’s public relations efforts. With her extensive background in conservative media and political campaigning, Zacharia is positioned to play a critical role in shaping the dialogue between the White House and the wider public.
