The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a notable exception by enabling the parents of 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to accompany him on upcoming tours to Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom. This decision follows his selection for the T20I squad, marking a significant milestone in his burgeoning career.

Speaking to media outlets, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that such allowances are rarely granted to players’ parents during tours. However, in the case of Vaibhav, the board believes a supportive presence is vital as he prepares to integrate into the senior squad. “He is still a minor and travelling with adults,” Saikia remarked. “Therefore, we deem it appropriate that his family can join him during this crucial transition.”

His father is reportedly set to travel to Sri Lanka shortly. If the family is open to it, the BCCI has expressed willingness to support their journey to England as well. “This is not standard protocol; however, our specific focus is on ensuring that he feels comfortable. Assimilating into the adult environment will take time,” added Saikia.

Vaibhav has demonstrated considerable potential, scoring over a thousand runs in just 23 matches during the Indian Premier League. His performance has prompted selectors to elevate him from the India A team. The BCCI’s decision reflects an investment in nurturing young talent and addressing their unique needs.

The selection committee, led by Chairman Ajit Agarkar, has high hopes for Sooryavanshi, given his consistent performances.
