The CSR Journal Magazine

Syed Saiful Haque, Chairperson and Co-founder of the WARBE Development Foundation, articulated grave concerns regarding the predicament of Bangladeshi workers in Gulf nations. Speaking on March 12, Haque reported that approximately four workers have lost their lives, with 12 to 13 others suffering injuries. He emphasized that many workers are confined to their residences, unable to secure safe employment amidst escalating challenges.

Haque noted that over 12 million Bangladeshi workers are currently employed in various countries, with a substantial 70 to 80 percent situated in the Gulf region. The dire conditions faced by this demographic raise alarm about their safety and welfare, prompting calls for greater attention to their circumstances.

Amidst this backdrop, a special flight operated by US-Bangla Airlines facilitated the return of 378 Bangladeshi nationals, including 27 crew members from Biman Bangladesh Airlines, who had been stranded in Dubai. This flight touched down at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at approximately 7:11 AM local time on March 5. Kamrul Islam, General Manager of Public Relations for the airline, confirmed the details of this effort to reunite stranded workers with their families.
