The Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) has issued a summon to rapper-singer Badshah over objectionable lyrics in his latest track titled ‘Tateeree’. The track was formally released a week ago, and since then many people have objected to the song, stating it is against Indian culture, values and modesty. Concerned about the lyrics’ impact, the commission took suo motu cognisance and expressed fear over the negative impact the derogatory lyrics would have on the younger generation and on women.
What action is the Commission taking?
After receiving numerous complaints, the panel decided to take up the matter. They are currently scrutinizing the song’s lyrics due to serious public concern over the track’s tone and messaging. The Chairperson of HSCW Renu Bhatia said that proceedings in the matter have started. She also noted that such content can negatively impact the younger generation. A summons in the matter was issued today to Badshah (Aditya Pratik Singh Sisodia). The Superintendent of Police in Panipat must ensure that the relevant parties in the summons appear for the hearing scheduled for March 13, 2026, at 11:30 am in the Conference Hall of the DC Office in Panipat.
Renu Bhatia has raised an important question: how did the song pass regulatory scrutiny? “It was important to examine how such lyrics receive clearance, particularly when they could impact public morality and cultural sensitivities.”
