Actor Keerthy Suresh has revealed the difficulties she encountered at home regarding her interfaith relationship with businessman Antony Thattil. Their relationship, which began before her acting career, faced significant challenges, particularly concerning her family’s acceptance. Keerthy disclosed that it took considerable time and effort to convince her family before they eventually married in December 2024, after dating for 15 years.
Keerthy and Antony first met through mutual friends in December 2009 and began dating in January 2010. At the time, Keerthy was just 17 years old and completing her Class 12 studies, while Antony, who is seven years her senior, was working in Qatar. The couple navigated a long-distance relationship for six years, which added another layer of complexity to their bond.
Reflecting on her family’s initial reluctance, Keerthy noted that Antony’s Christian faith posed challenges. She stated, “Since he’s a Christian, there obviously were problems at home that I had to face. It took a while for me to convince my family.” This aspect of their relationship highlighted the cultural and religious differences that needed to be addressed before they could move forward.
Personal Memories and Diary Incident
In a conversation with Curly Tales, Keerthy shared a personal memory from her college days that illustrated the challenges she faced. She recounted an incident where her mother, veteran actor Menaka, discovered her relationship by reading her diary. The diary contained intimate details about her romance with Antony, which led to a significant emotional response from Keerthy.
Keerthy explained, “I started dating my husband way back. To be exact, I started dating him right after I completed my 12th grade. When I was in college, my mother read my diary. She was like, ‘I’m your mother; I can read your diary.’” This revelation not only surprised her mother but also deeply upset Keerthy, prompting her to stop writing in her diary altogether.
She expressed regret over this loss, stating, “The worst part is, I stopped writing a diary altogether after that. I used to love writing, but I don’t even know where the diary is now. I really wish I could get it back. But I have a feeling that my mum burned it.” This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the personal challenges she faced while navigating her relationship.
Marriage and Public Announcement
Despite the hurdles, Keerthy and Antony successfully maintained their relationship largely away from the public eye. Only a select few within the film industry were aware of their romance until Keerthy made it public in November 2024. She shared a photograph with Antony celebrating Diwali, captioning it, “15 years and counting. It has always been AntoNY x KEerthy (Iykyk).”
The couple eventually tied the knot on December 12, 2024, in Goa. Their wedding included two ceremonies that reflected their respective cultural traditions—a traditional Tamil Hindu ceremony and a Malayali Christian ceremony. The celebrations were attended by close family members and friends, marking a significant milestone in their relationship.
On the professional front, Keerthy Suresh was recently featured in the Netflix series Akka, directed by Dharmaraj Shetty. The crime thriller also stars Radhika Apte, Tanvi Azmi, Monika Pawar, Anshumaan Pushkar, Poornima Indrajith, and Vishak Nair in key roles. The series has received mixed reviews from critics, showcasing Keerthy’s continued presence in the entertainment industry.
