Ansiba Hassan Accuses Co-Star Tiny Tom of Defamation Over Communal Remark Amid AMMA Row

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Ansiba Hassan, renowned for her performance in the film Drishyam, has publicly accused her co-star Tiny Tom of making defamatory statements, notably alleging that he referred to her as a “jihadi.” This accusation has emerged amidst ongoing controversies within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Ansiba claims to have endured continuous character defamation and the spread of misinformation regarding her personal life.

In her statements, Ansiba also highlighted that unfounded rumours had circulated, alleging her involvement in a forced religious conversion linked to a colleague’s driver. These claims, according to her, have significantly impacted her reputation and well-being.

Although Ansiba’s resignation from AMMA was officially stated to be for personal and professional reasons, she noted that she had previously voiced her concerns to the leadership of the organisation. The allegations suggest a deeper issue within AMMA related to internal conflicts and the treatment of its members.

Tiny Tom’s Response to the Allegations

Tiny Tom has categorically denied all allegations made against him, emphasising that he could never make communal comments as he maintains friendships with many individuals from diverse backgrounds, including Muslims. He explained that during their interactions, particularly at stage events where he holds a managerial role, disagreements can occur among friends, but this does not translate to name-calling or offensive remarks.

In response to the allegations of him labelling Ansiba, Tiny Tom stated, “I have not called her any names. How can I call her jihadi and all?” He reiterated that the claims appear to be based on hearsay, rather than any direct communication between the two parties. Tom expressed that if Ansiba had indeed heard such remarks directly, she should have reported them to the appropriate authorities instead of making public accusations.

Additionally, Tiny Tom noted the timeline of events related to Ansiba’s resignation. He reported that her resignation letter was submitted on February 21, and the general secretary of AMMA had advised her to delay her resignation until after an upcoming general body meeting. He also stated that the issue did not receive formal escalation in subsequent discussions, as Ansiba later attributed her resignation to work commitments.

The Broader Context of the Controversy

This controversy unfolds against the backdrop of internal tensions within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists, which has previously grappled with issues of member conduct and representation. Ansiba’s claims reflect a growing concern among some artists about their treatment and the potential ramifications of their public personas.

Efforts to address these issues within AMMA may be necessary to foster a more supportive environment for all its members. The allegations between Ansiba and Tiny Tom highlight the complexities and challenges faced by individuals in the film industry, who often navigate intense public scrutiny and personal relationships that can become strained in such an environment.

As the situation develops, both parties may seek to clarify their positions, not only within the public eye but also among their peers in the industry. The resolution of this conflict could potentially influence broader discussions about mental health, support, and the impact of social dynamics within artistic organisations.
