Alleged Enforced Disappearances Reported in Balochistan as Six Individuals Taken Into Custody

The CSR Journal Magazine

Recent reports indicate a rise in allegations of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, Pakistan, with at least six individuals reportedly taken into custody in distinct incidents across various districts over the last week. These developments add to the ongoing protest in Quetta, which has now reached its 6,135th consecutive day, underscoring the protracted nature of the crisis.

According to information from The Balochistan Post, four of these cases occurred between April 9 and April 12 in the districts of Kharan, Noshki, and Gwadar. On April 12, two brothers named Niaz and Riaz, residents of Kharan and sons of Master Ayaz, were allegedly apprehended by Pakistani forces in the Taalan area and have since been unaccounted for.

Additionally, on April 9, a rickshaw driver named Bilal Baloch from Killi Jamaldini in Noshki was reportedly taken from his home and has not been located since. On April 10, Amir Baloch, son of Karim, was also allegedly detained in the Kalanch area of Gwadar and remains missing.

Further Incidents and Concerns

Two more incidents were reported on April 13 in the Mand tehsil of Kech district, which included actions by Frontier Corps personnel conducting pre-dawn raids at various locations. One such raid took place in Khalaq Daan, resulting in the alleged detention of 20-year-old driver Khurshid Murad at approximately 3:00 am.

Following this, another operation in Gyab Mand reportedly led to the detention of Shera, a 21-year-old farmer. Both Khurshid and Shera have reportedly gone missing. Families of the individuals involved have expressed grave concerns regarding the lack of updates about their loved ones’ status.

The families are urging the authorities to either release the detainees or formally charge them and present them in court, as noted by The Balochistan Post. This demand highlights a continued plea for transparency and accountability in dealing with the enforced disappearances.

Ongoing Protests and Human Rights Violations

The protest camp organised by the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons outside the Quetta Press Club has persisted for over 6,000 days. Participants in the demonstration continue to call for accountability, transparency, and adherence to legal rights, further illustrating the widespread discontent surrounding these incidents.

Human rights organisations have consistently warned that enforced disappearances and alleged extrajudicial actions in Balochistan represent significant breaches of human rights. These claims have been echoed in various reports highlighting the severity of the situation in the region.

Despite the increasing focus on these allegations from civil society and rights groups, Pakistani authorities have not yet provided an official response addressing the most recent claims of enforced disappearances. This silence raises further questions regarding the treatment of detainees and the enforcement of legal standards in Balochistan.
