Ahmedabad Engineer Arrested For Murdering Society Helper Amid Long-Standing Dispute

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 25-year-old engineer has been apprehended for the alleged murder of a 55-year-old man in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Wednesday. The police revealed that the altercation stemmed from ongoing grievances regarding the victim’s behaviour. The victim, identified as Kanji Chauhan, had resided in a parking area outside the engineer’s home for almost three decades and was known to perform minor tasks for the residents of the apartment complex.

The attack occurred around 2 am, when the accused, Ritvij Jethmalani, allegedly assaulted Chauhan, leading to his death on the scene. A security guard discovered the body while on patrol, prompting immediate panic among residents who quickly informed emergency services and the police. Medical personnel pronounced Chauhan dead at the location.

Following the incident, police initiated investigations, examining CCTV footage from the vicinity. Forensic teams and a sniffer dog were also deployed to aid in identifying the perpetrator and gathering further evidence.

Details of the Dispute Emerge

According to police reports, Chauhan was reportedly involved in inappropriate conduct within shared areas of the housing complex, which included bathing openly and neglecting to close doors while using the bathroom. This behaviour allegedly led to mounting displeasure amongst the residents over time. Investigators uncovered that such actions had become a source of frustration for those living in the complex.

CCTV footage captured a young man carrying a bag near the crime scene around the time of the attack. This individual was later confirmed to be Ritvij Jethmalani, who also resides in the same housing complex as the victim.

The sniffer dog, employed during the investigation, directed officers to Jethmalani’s residence, thereby assisting in narrowing down the suspect. After being taken into custody, Jethmalani purportedly confessed to the authorities during questioning.

Accused’s Confession and Background

During interrogation, Assistant Commissioner of Police HM Kansagara reported that Jethmalani expressed feeling disturbed by Chauhan’s behaviour for an extended period. Allegedly, Ritvij admitted to striking Chauhan multiple times on the head, which ultimately resulted in the latter’s death.

Ritvij, a graduate in computer engineering, works as an education consultant, a career also shared by his father. Family members of the accused acknowledged that they had experienced ongoing disturbances due to the victim’s actions; however, they did not endorse the ensuing violence. They mentioned that prior complaints had been raised with the police, yet no substantial action had been taken to rectify the situation.

The authorities have confirmed the arrest of Ritvij Jethmalani and stated that further investigations are currently underway to uncover additional details surrounding the case. The incident has stirred significant concern among residents of the apartment complex, who are now left grappling with the aftermath of this event.
