Abhay Mangaldas Steps In As Honorary German Consul, Focuses On Skills And Education

The CSR Journal Magazine

The new Honorary German Consul in Ahmedabad, Abhay Mangaldas, has outlined his commitment to enhancing India-Germany relations through educational and skill development programmes. His focus is particularly on economically disadvantaged students, aiming to provide them with opportunities in the global job market.

Mangaldas emphasised the importance of teaching the German language and offering vocational training, which can foster employability with German firms both in India and internationally. He believes that early language acquisition, combined with practical training, can lead to substantial career opportunities for students.

According to Mangaldas, through collaboration with institutions like the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, there is a potential to create pathways to employment that align with current market demands. His efforts are seen as a means to significantly boost bilateral ties between India and Germany, particularly in the realms of commerce and education.

Significance of Cultural and Economic Cooperation

In a conversation with ANI, Mangaldas mentioned that beyond business, fostering cultural exchange is essential for mutual understanding. He cited plans to initiate cultural and delegation exchanges that would connect people from both nations and enhance collaborative efforts.

He reiterated the notion that dialogue is vital to strengthening the relationship further, and his role as Honorary Consul will serve as a catalyst for such exchanges. The aim is to facilitate deeper ties not only in trade but also in sharing knowledge and cultural experiences.

Christoph Hallier, the Consul General of Germany in Mumbai, supported these assertions by highlighting the importance of Mangaldas’ appointment. He noted that establishing a point of contact in Gujarat is a significant step in enhancing bilateral relations, especially given the region’s economic potential.

Germany and Gujarat’s New Chapter Together

Hallier described the appointment of Mangaldas as a new chapter in Germany’s engagement with Gujarat. He believes that this initiative will expand cooperation across various sectors, paving the way for enhanced trade opportunities and cultural initiatives.

He acknowledged that the Gujarat government has received this development positively, indicating a collective willingness to enhance partnerships with Germany. The presence of established German institutions, such as the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, is expected to support these new efforts and provide a framework for collaboration.

Both nations have seen their relationship grow stronger over the years, especially as economic ties have deepened. Hallier mentioned that in an era of global challenges, such as crises affecting Europe and India, maintaining strong collaborations is crucial. Recent events, including Prime Minister Modi’s reception of German Chancellor Merz in Ahmedabad, underscore the mutual trust underpinning these relations.

The commitment of both governments to economic partnerships was further solidified with the signing of the EU-India Free Trade Agreement in New Delhi in January, marking a new phase of robust cooperation between India and Germany.
