AAP MP Raghav Chadha Congratulates Harivansh on His Re-election as Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman

The CSR Journal Magazine

AAP Member of Parliament Raghav Chadha has congratulated Rajya Sabha MP Harivansh on his re-election as the Deputy Chairman of the Upper House. The re-election was confirmed on April 17, 2023, when Harivansh received overwhelming support from his peers in a voice vote within the Rajya Sabha.

Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda proposed Harivansh’s re-election, which was met with a positive response from the members present in the House. This marks Harivansh’s third consecutive term in the Deputy Chairman’s position, a role he has held significantly since his previous appointments.

During the session, Chadha expressed appreciation for the Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan, highlighting that he allows adequate speaking time for members during discussions. This aspect was particularly noted during the Zero Hour, seen as crucial for promoting dialogue among MPs.

Chadha Comments on Party Leadership’s Absence

While addressing the House, Chadha remarked on the noticeable absence of senior Aam Aadmi Party leaders, specifically mentioning party Chief Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Leader of the Rajya Sabha, Ashok Kumar Mittal. He noted, “The leader of the party I belong to is not present in the House,” stressing that as the recently removed deputy leader of the party, he was the only one from AAP attending the proceedings.

This comment may reflect internal dynamics within the party and its representation in the Upper House during significant discussions. Chadha’s presence alone as an AAP representative potentially indicates shifting relationships within the party’s leadership structure.

The importance of representation in such forums was highlighted through his remarks, which may point to broader implications regarding party discipline and responsibility among its members in the Parliament.

Prime Minister Modi and Leaders Extend Congratulations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside Leader of the House JP Nadda and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, welcomed Harivansh back into his role. Ensuing traditions saw Harivansh being escorted around the dais, signifying respect and formal acknowledgment of his return to office.

During the felicitation, Kharge also offered his congratulations, acknowledging Harivansh’s contributions to the House. His remarks about being a good neighbour in parliamentary practices induced light-hearted laughter from the Opposition benches, indicating a camaraderie among members despite political affiliations.

PM Modi further elaborated on Harivansh’s contributions and his connection to former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, noting the significant coincidence of Harivansh’s re-election coinciding with Chandra Shekhar’s birth anniversary. This tie was highlighted as particularly fitting, considering Harivansh’s previous work regarding Chandra Shekhar’s legacy and his authored book on the former Prime Minister’s contributions to Indian politics.

Conclusively, PM Modi expressed hope that this re-election would further unite the ideologies promoted by Chandra Shekhar, reinforcing the political lineage and philosophical foundations Harivansh represents within the Upper House.
