The CSR Journal Magazine

The tallest statue of Lord Ram, a 77-foot-tall bronze statue, was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt in South Goa. On Friday, PM Modi paid a visit to the temple situated in Partagali, South Goa. This statue has been designed by the same sculptor Ram Sutar, the man behind the famous Statue of Unity in Gujarat.

The Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt is one of the oldest existing monastic institutions in the world. This mutt holds a special place in the Saraswat community and is known for its spiritual, cultural, and social contributions. To mark the 550 years of Matt tradition, different programmes are being held here starting from November 27 to December 7. The premises of the mutt premises were constructed some 370 years back. It is expected that over 10,000 people will visit this place every day during this week-long celebration.

What is the importance of Kanaka Kavacha and Kanakana Kindi?

Today before visiting the Mutt, Prime Minister Modi did a roadshow in Udupi, Karnataka and also attended the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme at the Sri Krishna Matha. During this Udupi roadshow, PM Modi inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa, which is situated right in front of the Krishna sanctum. Modi dedicated the golden cover (traditionally called Kanaka Kavacha) for a sacred window (traditionally called Kanakana Kindi), it is believed that the saint Kanakadasa had Lord Krishna’s darshan from this place.

During his visit to Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana event at Sri Krishna Matha, PM Modi addressed around 1 lakh devotees, he recited shlokas from the Bhagwat Gita and hailed the saffron party’s predecessor Jan Sangh’s good governance model in Udupi. While PM Modi recited the shlokas from Bhagwat Gita, he was accompanied by all participants, this included students, monks, scholars, and common citizens.

Prime Minister Modi in his address said, “Coming to Udupi is very special for me. Udupi has been the karmabhoomi of the Jana Sangh and the Bharatiya Janta Party’s model of good governance. In 1968, the people of Udupi elected VS Acharya of the Jana Sangh to the Udupi Municipal Corporation. With this, Udupi laid the foundation of a new governance model. The cleanliness drive we are witnessing today was adopted by Udupi five decades ago. Udupi began to develop a model of water supply and drainage system in 70s.”

PM Modi ended his address with a message that the world witnessed India’s “divinity” as 1 lakh people together recited shlokas from the Bhagavad Gita.
