Actor and Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan took on the role of Lord Ram during the Ramleela celebrations held in New Delhi on Tuesday, coinciding with the festival of Dussehra. Kishan, dressed in traditional warrior attire and equipped with a bow and arrow, shared images of his performance on the social media platform X. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “By the grace of Lord Shri Ram, the Ram Lila of Ayodhya was staged in Ram Lila (Delhi). Jai Shri Ram.”

Kishan’s Journey with Ramleela

Kishan reflected on his personal connection to Ramleela, noting that his journey began in Ayodhya. Despite this connection, he mentioned that he had never previously portrayed Lord Ram. “My journey began with Ramleela in Ayodhya, but I had never portrayed Lord Ram before. Today, by the grace of Lord Ram, I am getting the opportunity to take on this role,” he remarked. His excitement was palpable as he prepared for the Dussehra performance, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

In his statements, Kishan expressed optimism for the day’s performance, hoping for divine guidance. “Yesterday went well, and by the grace of Lord Ram, may he guide today’s performance just as beautifully. Let us see how the Lord makes today’s Ramleela unfold on stage,” he added. His remarks underscored a deep reverence for the character he was portraying and the cultural importance of the event.

Alongside his performance, Kishan extended Dussehra wishes to his fans and the broader Indian community. He encouraged individuals to confront and overcome the evils present within themselves and society at large. “Victory to Lord Ram, to Maryada Purushottam, to the best among men. In the same way, we need to destroy the Ravana in our own lives, the Ravana inside us, and the Ravana in society,” he stated. His message resonated with the theme of Dussehra, which celebrates the triumph of good over evil.

Significance of Dussehra

Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, holds immense cultural and religious significance in India. It commemorates the victory of Lord Ram over the demon king Ravana, symbolising the defeat of evil. The festival is marked by various celebrations across the country, including the staging of Ramleela, which depicts the life and adventures of Lord Ram. Kishan’s portrayal adds to the rich tradition of these performances, which aim to educate and entertain audiences about the moral lessons inherent in the epic tale.

The Ramleela performances typically attract large crowds, fostering a sense of community and shared cultural heritage. Kishan’s participation in the event not only highlights his artistic talents but also reinforces the importance of preserving and promoting traditional narratives. As the celebrations continue, many look forward to the teachings and values that the story of Ram conveys, particularly during this festive season.

As Dussehra unfolds, the themes of righteousness and the call for inner reflection resonate strongly with many. Kishan’s performance serves as a reminder of these ideals, encouraging individuals to strive for personal and societal improvement. The actor’s commitment to his role and the festival’s message underscores the enduring relevance of these cultural traditions in contemporary society.
