Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines with 46, Smashes Six off Sunil Narine in IPL Clash

The CSR Journal Magazine

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old standout from Rajasthan Royals, continues to leave a mark on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Demonstrating remarkable skill and confidence, he took on renowned spinner Sunil Narine, hitting a six on just his second ball faced from the legendary bowler during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens. This exceptional performance is part of Sooryavanshi’s ongoing sequence of dominant displays against prominent bowlers. He amassed a total of 46 runs off 28 balls, striking six fours and two sixes, achieving a remarkable strike rate of 164.29.

Sooryavanshi has made an impressive entrance into the IPL, having debuted with a six against Shardul Thakur on his very first delivery. Throughout the season, he has shown an audacious approach against some of the best bowlers globally, including the likes of Vaibhav Arora, Cameron Green, Kartik Tyagi, and, more recently, Narine. His notable achievements also include hitting a six off his very first ball faced against Indian pace legend Jasprit Bumrah during a rain-affected match against Mumbai Indians (MI) this season. Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he has similarly impressed by hitting sixes off the first balls bowled by veterans Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood.

Further showcasing his talents, Sooryavanshi’s first-ball confrontations have been noteworthy. Last season, he hit six and four runs against leading T20I wicket-taker Arshdeep Singh and spinner Washington Sundar, respectively. In the preceding year, he also hit a first-ball six against South African pacer Marco Jansen while playing against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), and has consistently exhibited a fearless attitude against Mohammed Siraj during their encounters.

This season, Sooryavanshi ranks as the fourth-highest run-scorer, accumulating 246 runs in just six matches, boasting an average of 41.00 and an extraordinary strike rate of 236.53, which includes two fifties with a top score of 78. In his IPL career spanning 13 matches, he has amassed 498 runs at an average of 38.30 and a strike rate of 220.35, featuring a century and three fifties, while collectively hitting 42 fours and 44 sixes in a mere 226 balls.

In the match against KKR, Rajasthan Royals chose to bat first. An opening partnership of 81 runs between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi gave a promising start to RR. Jaiswal contributed with 39 runs from 29 deliveries, including four boundaries and two sixes. However, despite this strong beginning, Rajasthan struggled to build on their initial momentum. Contributions from Kartik Tyagi, taking 3 wickets for 22 runs, and Varun Chakravarthy, with figures of 3 for 14, helped reduce RR to a total of 155 runs for 9 wickets at the end of their innings.
