Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Inspects Kumbh Mela 2027 Preparations in Haridwar

On March 16, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami traveled to Haridwar to assess the preparations for the Kumbh Mela scheduled for 2027. During a review meeting held at Damkothi, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of timely completion of arrangements for the significant event. He urged officials to address any potential shortcomings in the organization of the Kumbh Mela, a major religious gathering that attracts millions.

Coordination Among Departments and Stakeholders

The Chief Minister instructed all relevant departments to collaborate effectively and operate at full capacity to meet the deadlines. He highlighted the necessity of working in harmony with various stakeholders, including religious organizations and spiritual leaders, to ensure a well-executed event. Dhami assured that sufficient financial resources would be available for Kumbh-related projects and instructed that approvals for necessary projects be expedited.

Assessment of Infrastructure and Services

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the status of crucial infrastructure, which includes roads, bridges, water supply, healthcare, traffic management, and parking facilities. He stressed the need for both quality and timely completion of these projects. Additionally, Dhami called for the development of a comprehensive execution strategy that considers the upcoming Char Dham Yatra, the monsoon season, and the Kanwar Yatra. He urged departments to maintain effective coordination throughout this process.

Security and Technology Enhancements

In terms of security arrangements for the Kumbh Mela, the Chief Minister prioritized the establishment of a modern Integrated Control and Command Centre, equipped with advanced technology. He assured that the necessary approvals for its development would be granted shortly. Furthermore, he reviewed the planned CCR-2 building project adjacent to the Mela Control Building, declaring that financial approval for this essential infrastructure would soon be provided.

Focus on Pilgrim Facilitation and Infrastructure Expansion

Dhami placed emphasis on improving accessibility for pilgrims by prioritizing proposals related to the Kharkhari Bridge and Shriyatra Bridge. He directed officials to concentrate on enhancing basic infrastructure, security measures, sanitation, and sewage management in all areas related to the Kumbh Mela, particularly in Rishikesh and Muniki Reti. The Chief Minister also called for the expansion of the Damkothi Guest House in Haridwar and stressed the need for a plan to construct a modern guest house adjacent to the existing facility.

Current Progress of Preparations

During the meeting, Mela Officer Sonika provided updates on the ongoing preparations for Kumbh Mela 2027. She noted that 33 permanent infrastructure projects involving roads, bridges, ghats, water supply, healthcare, security, and event management are currently under construction and progressing according to the timeline established. Additionally, she conveyed that the improvement plan for routes leading to the Mansa Devi Temple and Chandi Devi Temple has been approved, along with details of other proposed works and temporary arrangements for the event.
