Uttar Pradesh Man Accused of Installing CCTV Cameras Sister-in-law’s Room for Dowry Harassment

The CSR Journal Magazine

A disturbing case of alleged dowry harassment has emerged from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, where a man is accused of installing CCTV cameras in his sister-in-law’s bathroom and kitchen. The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, alleges that her husband’s family has subjected her to both physical and verbal abuse, repeatedly pressuring her for additional dowry demands since her marriage.

Details of the Marriage and Dowry Demands

The woman married Kapil Dev on March 12, 2019, following Hindu traditions. Her family claims to have spent approximately Rs 15 lakh on the wedding, which included gold and silver jewelry, household essentials, electronics, clothing, and even a bullet motorcycle, along with Rs 5.51 lakh in cash.

Despite this sizable investment, dissatisfaction arose within her husband’s family regarding the wedding gifts, leading to new dowry demands for a WagonR car and an additional Rs 2 lakh.

Allegations of Ongoing Harassment

The woman’s complaints indicate a pattern of harassment that includes being subjected to verbal abuse and physical violence whenever her in-laws perceived that their demands were unmet. This harassment allegedly continued even after the birth of her two children, Riyansh and Kunal. The situation reportedly escalated when Kunal’s brother purportedly installed CCTV cameras in private areas, contributing to her humiliation and distress.

Threats and Expulsion from the Household

Legal Actions and Ongoing Investigation

Following the incidents, the woman filed a police complaint, prompting law enforcement to initiate an investigation into the allegations. She has also claimed that all the items provided as dowry have been retained by her in-laws. The police are currently pursuing the matter to gather further evidence and ascertain the facts surrounding the case.
