The Uttar Pradesh government has escalated efforts to ensure public safety and provide relief during the ongoing flood crisis affecting multiple regions in the state. The measures include enhanced rescue operations, particularly aimed at the severely impacted districts of Lakhimpur, Kheri, and Ayodhya. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed across various locations, including Prayagraj, to assist in search and rescue efforts, following multiple drowning incidents.

Authorities are working diligently to coordinate relief operations, focusing on assisting residents in flood-affected areas. The government is prioritising safety and timely interventions, aiming to mitigate the challenges posed by the adverse weather conditions.

Public advisories have been issued urging residents to exercise caution around rivers, ponds, and other bodies of water amidst the flooding situation. People are encouraged to avoid areas with strong currents and to adhere to safety guidelines provided by local administrations.

Mission Safe Future Campaign for School Vehicle Safety

In parallel with flood response efforts, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has intensified checks on school vehicles under the ‘Mission Safe Future’ initiative. The campaign aims to ensure the safety of schoolchildren by verifying the fitness of vehicles and the character of their drivers. Currently, there are 19,680 schools in Uttar Pradesh, with a combined total of 82,259 vehicles operating under their auspices.

As part of these inspections, the Transport Department has discovered a significant number of vehicles that do not meet required safety standards. So far, 6,066 vehicles have been classified as unfit, leading to the issuance of notices to their operators. Consequently, enforcement teams have also issued penalties to 1,072 school vehicles for various infractions, with an additional 356 vehicles being impounded.

Additional Transport Commissioner (Enforcement) KD Singh Gaur stated that ensuring the safety of students during transit is a top priority. Efforts involve thorough checks on vehicle fitness and the verification of driver backgrounds, aiming for compliance with established regulations.

Character Verification of Drivers Conducted

The Transport Department has successfully completed character verification for 27,066 school vehicle drivers as part of enhancing safety measures. Schools have been provided with guidelines emphasising the necessity to verify driver backgrounds, ensuring that only qualified individuals are responsible for transporting children.

Continuing inspections are aimed at identifying vehicles that fail to meet safety requirements, and taking appropriate corrective actions when necessary. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving the transportation system for schoolchildren across Uttar Pradesh.

Amid these safety initiatives, the NDRF remains focused on ongoing flood recovery operations as conditions evolve. As the state grapples with flood and waterlogging challenges, the NDRF has reiterated the importance of public awareness regarding dangers associated with flooded areas, urging individuals to remain vigilant and adhere to safety measures to avoid tragic accidents.
