Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India’s leadership during the BRICS presidency has concentrated on fostering principles of resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability.

During the open session on September 13, 2026, at the BRICS Summit held at Bharat Mandapam, he highlighted the transformation of a shared vision among member nations into what he described as a “win-win collaboration.”

Modi articulated that the BRICS Logistic Supply Chain Cooperation Framework aims to enhance the reliability and resilience of supply chains. He underscored the importance of collective efforts among member countries in accomplishing these objectives.

In reference to innovation, he mentioned the establishment of the BRICS Incubator Network, which is intended to link startups and incubators across member nations. Modi advocated for the BRICS Startup Innovation Fund, aimed at promoting innovative solutions that can be scaled effectively.

Creation of Opportunities Through Digital Agriculture

The Prime Minister noted that the BRICS Network on Digital Agriculture could potentially unlock new opportunities for farmers. By integrating artificial intelligence, geospatial technologies, and digital public infrastructure, the initiative aims to align technology with the real requirements of the agricultural community.

Modi also cautioned against the “weaponization” of technology and critical minerals, suggesting that such practices could impede collective progress. He stressed the need for inclusivity in the adoption of technological advancements to ensure that they benefit all sectors of society.

The overarching theme of the open session was ‘Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth.’ This theme encapsulates the goals that BRICS countries aspire to achieve through mutual cooperation and strategic collaboration.

Roundtable Discussions and Bilateral Meetings

During the second day of the BRICS Summit, PM Modi welcomed leaders from various member countries to engage in discussions focused on shared interests. The session provided a platform for BRICS leaders to explore avenues for strengthening collaborative efforts and ensuring a more inclusive approach to global economic growth.

Following the open session, Modi is scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings with other heads of state attending the BRICS Summit. These discussions will likely cover key issues pertinent to the interests and priorities of the member nations.

The BRICS Summit serves as a critical forum for member countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—to enhance dialogue and foster a deeper understanding of global issues.
