UK Man Accused of Killing Estranged Wife Claims ‘Voices’ Forced Him to Commit Crime

The CSR Journal Magazine

A man in the United Kingdom allegedly murdered his estranged wife before heading to a leisure facility, where he later claimed that mysterious voices compelled him to commit the act. The accused, Alireza Askari, faces charges related to the death of his wife, Paria Veisi, who was 37 years old. According to prosecutors, the stabbing took place in Askari’s residence in Cardiff shortly after Veisi had recently moved out following the couple’s separation. The couple had ended their relationship less than two weeks prior to the incident.

Pre-Meditated Actions Noted

Prosecutors highlighted that Askari appeared to have planned the attack, purchasing kitchen knives on the day of the murder. The court heard that Veisi visited Askari’s home on April 12, 2025, after a phone call between the two. Soon after her arrival, he allegedly stabbed her multiple times in the neck and upper chest in the conservatory. A witness waiting in a car outside reported hearing a scream, which prosecutors believe was Veisi’s as she was attacked.

Aftermath of the Murder

Instead of notifying authorities immediately after the attack, Askari reportedly left the scene and went to the David Lloyd leisure centre. There, he took a shower while a companion waited for him. During this time, he placed a phone call to a woman in Iran, believed to be his girlfriend. This sequence of events has raised questions regarding his state of mind immediately following the incident.

Concealment of the Crime

Following the murder, Askari allegedly contacted his aunt, Maryam Delavary, who traveled from London to assist him in cleaning the property and disposing of Veisi’s body. The prosecution stated that they used cleaning agents to remove any trace of blood from the conservatory before digging a hole in the backyard to bury her body. Paving slabs, soil, and recently acquired flowers were placed over the burial site to mask its location.

Fabricating a False Narrative

To support the claim that Veisi had left voluntarily, Askari allegedly sent messages from her phone stating she had traveled to Iran for medical attention. Additionally, he relocated her car from its usual parking spot in an effort to mislead friends and family. Eventually, concerned friends reported her missing, leading to a police investigation that uncovered her body buried in the garden of the Foster Drive property.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Askari was apprehended while returning from Birmingham, where he reportedly purchased caustic soda, a highly corrosive substance prosecutors alleged he planned to use to obliterate evidence. Delavary was arrested separately in London for her involvement in concealing the crime. In police interviews, Askari claimed he suffers from schizophrenia, asserting that voices were instructing him on various actions. He mentioned an unidentified individual, referred to as “Hasan,” who supposedly guided him on how to cover up the crime.

Admission of Guilt and Ongoing Case

Prosecutors dismissed Askari’s mental health defense, arguing that evidence indicated a premeditated act with deliberate efforts to hide the murder. He has since confessed to the murder of Veisi, while Delavary has entered a guilty plea for perverting the course of justice. The court has yet to announce a sentencing date, as additional submissions are anticipated to be heard soon.
