Two individuals from Bangladesh were detained at Paltan Bazar Railway Station in Guwahati on September 26, according to a statement from the Guwahati Police. The apprehension followed a tip-off received by the authorities, leading to a targeted operation at the railway station.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Kulendra Nath Deka, confirmed the arrests, stating that the operation aimed to reinforce security measures and identify individuals who may have entered India illegally. The operation was executed without incident, and both nationals were taken into custody shortly after their arrival at the station.

Deka reported that the detained individuals were allegedly attempting to travel to West Bengal, having entered Indian territory through the Meghalaya border. This raises concerns about continued illegal migration in the region, which authorities have been closely monitoring.

Interrogation Findings

During the course of interrogation, both individuals reportedly admitted to their illegal entry into India. They mentioned that they crossed the border with the intention of finding employment opportunities in West Bengal. The local police are using this information to inform broader investigations into human trafficking and illegal migration networks operating in the area.

Additionally, the police recovered two Aadhaar cards from their belongings. Upon further examination, these cards were determined to be counterfeit. This discovery raises questions about the methods employed by individuals attempting to navigate bureaucratic systems while residing in India without proper documentation.

Alongside the fake Aadhaar cards, the authorities also seized Bangladeshi currency notes from the detainees. The presence of foreign currency adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation, as it may indicate connections to broader financial networks beyond mere employment-seeking motivations.

The two detained Bangladeshi nationals are currently in police custody, and the legal process is set to commence under the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950.
