Air India Suspends Flights to Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam Until 24 Oct

The CSR Journal Magazine

Air India and Air India Express have announced the extension of flight suspensions to and from three cities in Saudi Arabia: Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dammam. This decision prolongs a previous suspension that was set to conclude on 17 October. The new end date for the suspension is now 24 October 2026. Passengers are advised to verify their flight status prior to heading to the airport, as flight schedules are subject to change.

The advisory issued by Air India refers to the current situation without specifying any particular incident. The suspension is reportedly linked to ongoing strikes by Houthi rebels in Saudi Arabia, which have raised security concerns. Air India has confirmed the suspension through its official communication, emphasising the need for safety amid these developments.

In its statement, Air India mentioned, “In view of the prevailing situation, Air India and Air India Express have temporarily suspended flights to and from Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam until 24 October 2026.” The airlines have indicated that the resumption of services will depend on further assessments of the security situation in the region.

Passenger Options and Support

Passengers holding confirmed bookings made on or before 15 October for travel between 9 and 25 October are eligible for certain relief measures. These passengers can change their travel dates once without incurring any fees, with the new travel date permitted up to 10 November. Additionally, passengers may opt to travel to or from another destination served by the airlines within the Gulf Cooperation Council region, subject to availability.

For Air India passengers, this means they can consider rebooking flights to or from Dubai or Doha. Those whose flights have been cancelled are entitled to request full refunds if they decide against travelling. Customer care teams and booking offices are available to assist passengers in exploring their options, both in India and in the Gulf region.

Other Indian airlines have also announced similar suspensions for flights to Saudi Arabia. IndiGo has extended its flight cancellations until 24 October, while Akasa Air has suspended its services to Riyadh until the same date. Flights to and from Jeddah by Akasa Air are suspended until 21 October.

Impact on Travellers

The ongoing flight disruptions significantly affect Indian nationals travelling for employment, family visits, and religious purposes. Given the substantial Indian workforce in Saudi Arabia, these routes are crucial for many families. The prolonged suspension may necessitate adjustments in travel plans for those intending to visit or work in the region.

Passengers considering alternative travel arrangements are advised to check availability before finalising their plans. The airlines have stated that they are closely monitoring the situation and will keep passengers informed about any changes to flight schedules. Travellers are encouraged to stay updated through official channels of Air India and Air India Express, as flight schedules may change at short notice.

In light of these developments, it is essential for passengers to remain vigilant and proactive in managing their travel itineraries. The airlines are committed to providing support and flexibility during this challenging period, ensuring that passengers have the necessary information to make informed decisions regarding their travel plans.
