Prashant Kishor Praises Nitish Kumar as a Key Leader in Bihar Politics

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a recent campaign event in Vaishali, Prashant Kishor, the chief of Jan Suraaj, expressed high regard for former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, stating that Kumar ranks among the most sensible leaders in Bihar’s history. Kishor highlighted Kumar’s genuine concern for societal welfare, asserting that he would certainly be listed among the top ten leaders in the state’s political landscape.

Kishor’s comments came amid the ongoing legislative council elections in Bihar, where he is actively campaigning for eight seats. He noted that during periods when Kumar was unwell and others were managing the government, various irregularities occurred, which he opposed. However, he emphasised that when Kumar was in good health, he made earnest efforts to advance the state.

Additionally, Kishor defended Kumar against recent controversies involving JD(U) MLA Anant Singh’s alleged remarks regarding nine murders in Bihar. He stated that the misinterpretation of Singh’s comments had led to unwarranted scrutiny of Kumar’s leadership.

Kishor’s Long-standing Association with Kumar

Prashant Kishor has been closely associated with Nitish Kumar for many years, having played a significant role in the 2015 Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) election campaign. His loyalty to Kumar is evident from his previous position as the national vice president of JD(U), where he was regarded as a trusted confidant. Kishor’s recent statements appear aimed at reconnecting with voters in the Patna Graduates constituency, a demographic that has historically supported Kumar.

During the campaign, Kishor also addressed a viral clip concerning Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, which had been used by the BJP to criticise him. Kishor argued that if the logic of punishing anyone accused of a crime were to be applied universally, then Choudhary would also fall under that classification. He insisted that his comments had been taken out of context and challenged anyone to file a case against him if they found his statements to be incorrect.

Kishor’s campaigning strategy includes urging the public to rise above caste and religious considerations, advocating for a more accountable governance system. He has been vocal about the need for educational and employment opportunities for the youth, encouraging teachers to advocate for their dignity and fair remuneration.

Response to Recent Tragedy

During his campaign, Kishor expressed sorrow over a tragic boat accident in Vaishali that resulted in the deaths of 15 children. He announced plans to spend the entire day of Dussehra with the grieving families, highlighting his commitment to support them during this difficult time. Kishor accused both the Chief Minister and the NDA government of failing to visit the bereaved families, suggesting a lack of empathy in leadership.

He called on the electorate to reflect on their future, questioning whether they wished to continue under what he described as the “unchecked, unrestrained system of Samrat Choudhary” or to seek a more accountable governance structure. Kishor’s campaign is focused on mobilising public sentiment towards a more responsible and responsive administration.

As Kishor continues his tour across Bihar, his messages resonate with various segments of the population, aiming to galvanise support for his party in the upcoming elections. His efforts reflect a broader strategy to engage voters on critical issues affecting their lives, including education, employment, and governance.
