Actor Akshay Kumar will collaborate with renowned director Priyadarshan for an upcoming comedy project, which is set against the backdrop of the 1970s. This film will mark Priyadarshan’s 99th feature film, showcasing his long-standing career in the Indian film industry. The project is being produced by Ramesh Taurani and is yet to be titled. This partnership is a reunion for the actor-director duo, who have previously worked together on successful films.

The film is expected to begin shooting in the last week of November, as reported by Hindustan Times. This timeline indicates a swift progression from pre-production to filming, reflecting the team’s commitment to the project. The shooting will reportedly take place over a three-month period, with locations including wildlife areas in Rajasthan and a set in Mumbai. Additionally, the production team is exploring potential filming sites in Bhopal.

Details of the Cast and Crew

The ensemble cast is set to include veteran actors Annu Kapoor and Rajpal Yadav, both of whom have made significant contributions to Indian cinema. However, the casting for the female lead is still in progress, indicating that the production team is keen on selecting the right talent to complement the male leads. The screenplay has been co-written by Priyadarshan and Rohan Shankar, who previously collaborated on the film Bhooth Bangla, suggesting a strong creative synergy between the writers.

Priyadarshan has chosen to remain discreet about the project, stating, “Let the project get locked then I will talk,” which indicates that further details may be revealed once the production is officially confirmed. This approach is not uncommon in the film industry, where directors often prefer to keep certain aspects under wraps until they are ready for public announcement.

Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan’s recent collaboration was in the psychological thriller Haiwaan, which is scheduled for release in 2026. This film also features actor Saif Ali Khan and is an official adaptation of the 2016 Malayalam thriller Oppam. The narrative revolves around a blind man, portrayed by Saif, who is tasked with protecting a young girl from an antagonist played by Akshay. The film also includes notable actors such as Boman Irani, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Saiyami Kher in pivotal roles.

Previous Collaborations and Future Prospects

In addition to Haiwaan, Priyadarshan directed Akshay Kumar in the horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla, which is also set for release in 2026. This film was produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Cape of Good Films and features a cast that includes Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi. The storyline focuses on supernatural events occurring within a haunted mansion, showcasing a blend of horror and comedy elements.

Bhooth Bangla was co-written by Priyadarshan, Abhilash Nair, and Rohan Shankar, further solidifying the collaborative efforts of the creative team. The film premiered in cinemas worldwide on April 17, 2026, and has generated interest due to its unique premise and star-studded cast. As Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan continue to work together, their projects are anticipated to draw significant attention from audiences and critics alike.

As the new comedy project unfolds, it is expected to contribute to the rich legacy of both Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan in Indian cinema. With a focus on humour and adventure, this film aims to capture the essence of the 1970s while appealing to contemporary audiences. The anticipation surrounding the project highlights the enduring popularity of both the actor and the director in the film industry.
