Thieves Break Into Ambala Government School Twice

The CSR Journal Magazine

Thieves have reportedly targeted a government school in Dhurkada, Ambala, on two separate occasions, stealing essential supplies from the mid-day meal storage room. The incidents involved the theft of gas cylinders, food supplies, and cooking utensils, as confirmed by local police on Thursday.

According to the police report, the first incident occurred on October 12, after school hours. Staff members had secured the mid-day meal room before leaving for the day. However, upon returning the next morning, they discovered that the lock had been broken. A subsequent inspection revealed that four cooking gas cylinders, along with 50 steel tumblers intended for students’ use, had been stolen. Additionally, various food supplies, including lentils, spices, onions, and cooking oil, were also missing.

Following the discovery, the school staff re-locked the room, hoping to prevent further thefts. Unfortunately, just two days later, the lock was again found broken. This time, a large aluminium tub and three cooking pots were reported stolen, indicating a pattern of repeated criminal activity targeting the school.

Police Investigation Underway

In response to the thefts, Pratibha Gupta, the school in-charge, filed a formal complaint with the Ambala City Sadar police station. The police have since registered a case against unknown individuals and have initiated an investigation into the incidents. Authorities are currently working to gather evidence and identify the culprits responsible for these thefts.

Local law enforcement has expressed concern regarding the security of educational institutions, particularly those that provide essential services like mid-day meals. The theft of food supplies not only impacts the school but also the students who rely on these meals for nutrition. Police officials are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in the area.

As the investigation continues, police are exploring various leads and have appealed to the public for assistance. They are particularly interested in any information that could help identify the thieves or provide insights into their methods. The community’s cooperation could prove vital in resolving these incidents.

Community Response and Concerns

The repeated thefts at the government school have raised concerns among local residents and parents. Many are worried about the safety of their children and the security of educational facilities in the area. Some parents have expressed their disappointment, stating that schools should be safe havens for children, and such incidents undermine the trust placed in these institutions.

Community leaders have called for increased security measures at schools, suggesting that local authorities should consider installing surveillance cameras and improving lighting around school premises. These measures could help deter potential thieves and ensure the safety of students and staff alike.

In the wake of these incidents, discussions have emerged regarding the broader implications of school safety and the need for community vigilance. Residents are encouraged to engage with local law enforcement and participate in neighbourhood watch programmes to help protect their schools and other public spaces.
