Telangana Speaker Dismisses Disqualification Petitions Against MLAs Danam Nagender and Kadiyam Srihari

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, Gaddam Prasad Kumar, has officially dismissed the two remaining disqualification petitions against MLAs Kadiyam Srihari and Danam Nagender. This decision was announced on Wednesday, indicating that both legislators will not face any further proceedings regarding allegations of defection. Danam Nagender, who initially secured his position from the Khairatabad assembly constituency as a candidate for the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), later contested for a parliamentary seat in Secunderabad under the Congress banner. The ruling addresses ongoing concerns about party loyalty and legislative stability in the state.

BRS to Introduce Private Member Bill

In a related development, KT Rama Rao, the working president of the BRS, declared that the party intends to table a Private Member Bill during the current Budget Session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly. This initiative aims to hold the Congress government accountable for what the BRS describes as a “betrayal” of the Telangana populace. KTR emphasized that the Congress party’s administration ascended to power by promising six key guarantees to the citizens, yet has reportedly failed to deliver on those commitments. The leader reflected on Congress’s earlier assertions that the six guarantees would be granted legal standing during their first Cabinet meeting; however, none of these assurances have materialized even after two and a half years.

Focus on Legal Backing for Guarantees

Rama Rao stated that the proposed legislation seeks to ensure that the promises made by the Congress government, which encompass provisions for women, the elderly, persons with disabilities, students, and farmers, are instated in a legally binding fashion. He highlighted that the impending Private Member Bill would serve not just to fulfill these commitments but also to unveil the failures of the Congress party in executing these pledges, which were reiterated by senior Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi. KTR urged Congress MLAs to support the bill if they genuinely wish to honor the mandates provided to the people of Telangana.

Importance of the Ongoing Budget Session

KTR addressed the media following a joint orientation meeting at Golconda Resort, which convened BRS MLAs and MLCs to strategize for the forthcoming Assembly Budget Session. He remarked on the significance of this particular session, noting that the Congress government is now presenting its third budget, thereby marking a pivotal moment in its governance. With nearly half of the government’s term completed, he pointed out that the period allowed by the public for the realization of electoral promises has effectively lapsed, raising questions about the administration’s failure to deliver tangible results.

Party Leaders Discuss Strategies

During the meeting, BRS leaders engaged in discussions aimed at outlining strategies to highlight the government’s shortcomings regarding its commitments. They also planned to address issues related to alleged excesses and governance failures by the Congress government during the Assembly proceedings. Senior figures such as Madhusudhana Chary, Banda Prakash, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, and Sabitha Indra Reddy participated in the discussions, contributing to the party’s overarching goals for the current legislative session.
