TCS Nashik: Maharashtra CM Fadnavis States Zero Tolerance for Religious Conversion Cases

The CSR Journal Magazine

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis convened a meeting on April 18 to address the ongoing investigation into a reported religious conversion case in Nashik. During this review, the Chief Minister underscored the government’s firm stance against religious conversions, asserting that such cases would not be accepted under any circumstances. The meeting brought together prominent officials, including the Director General of Police, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, and senior police personnel.

In his remarks, Fadnavis commended the Nashik Police for their initiative in uncovering the matter. However, he emphasised that the investigation must now be pursued with increased determination. Key instructions were given to ensure a thorough exploration of all possible angles and factors related to the case.

Status of Registered Cases and Investigations

The investigation has resulted in the registration of nine cases linked to the Nashik incident. One of these cases was filed at the Deolali Camp police station, while the other eight were registered at Mumbai Naka. To facilitate an extensive inquiry into the allegations of religious conversion and sexual harassment associated with the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) office, a Fact Finding Committee has been established. Advocate Monika Arora confirmed that the committee would engage with all relevant stakeholders during its investigation.

As part of the ongoing legal procedures, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) took two individuals, Safi Shaikh and Raza Memon, into custody on charges related to the alleged forced conversion case connected to TCS in Nashik. The ATS is conductively interrogating these individuals as part of their investigation into the allegations.

In a statement regarding the matter, K Krithivasan, the CEO and Managing Director of TCS, indicated that the company is collaborating with expert teams from Deloitte and the law firm Trilegal. These independent teams are assisting in an internal investigation led by Aarthi Subramanian, TCS’s President and Chief Operating Officer. Krithivasan also revealed that a committee chaired by Independent Director Keki Mistry has been established to oversee this investigation.

Operation of TCS’s Nashik Unit Amid Investigations

Despite the investigations related to the allegations, TCS has confirmed that its Nashik unit remains operational and continues to serve its clients. The company has stated that while comprehensive reviews are in progress, a preliminary evaluation of the records related to the Nashik unit has not uncovered any complaints aligned with the allegations raised. TCS has reiterated its commitment to maintaining ethical practices and adhering to guidelines regarding workplace conduct.

As the situation develops, the authorities are expected to keep the public informed about the outcomes of the investigations. The need for transparent communication has been underscored by various stakeholders involved in the case, as everyone seeks clarity regarding the unfolding events surrounding TCS and the reported allegations. The oversight of these investigations will remain a priority, given the serious nature of the claims involved.

The Chief Minister’s firm stance on the issue reflects the administration’s focus on ensuring that such cases are addressed promptly and effectively. With multiple agencies engaged in the investigation, the outcome will likely play a significant role in shaping future policies concerning religious conversion cases in Maharashtra.
