Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin and Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin Vote in Chennai

The CSR Journal Magazine

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, accompanied by his son, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and other family members, cast their votes at a polling station in Chennai on April 23. Stalin is vying for a return to power, contesting from the Kolathur Assembly constituency, a region where he has previously held a strong electoral position.

In this election, Stalin faces a diverse array of challengers, including VS Babu from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and P Santhana Krishnan from AIADMK, alongside Soundara Pandian Louther Seth from the NTK party. This multi-cornered contest has turned Kolathur into a high-stakes battleground.

Stalin’s electoral history in Kolathur has been impressive; in the 2021 Assembly elections, he garnered a significant 1,05,522 votes, accounting for 61.4 per cent of the total. His victory was marked by a substantial margin of 70,384 votes against AIADMK’s Aadi Rajaram, while the voter turnout was recorded at 64.63 per cent out of a total of 2,68,296 registered voters.

Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Contest in Chepuak-Triplicane

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin is contesting the Assembly elections from the Chepuak-Triplicane constituency. His opponents include AIADMK’s Adhi Rajaram, NTK’s Ayisha Begum, and D Selvam from TVK. The competition in this constituency is expected to be keenly contested, with various issues at play.

The overall political landscape in Tamil Nadu is dynamic, characterised by the presence of multiple parties and significant voter engagement. Udhayanidhi will aim to leverage the support base created by his father’s administration, while also addressing local concerns pertinent to his constituency.

As the voting process commences, the Tamil Nadu and West Bengal Assembly elections are under scrutiny amidst stringent security arrangements. Results of these elections could have lasting implications, not only for the competing parties but also for the state’s governance in the coming years.

Polling Dynamics and Future Implications

The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are taking place in a single phase today, while West Bengal will conduct its polling in two phases, with the second phase set for April 29. The counting of votes for both states is scheduled for May 4. In Tamil Nadu, polling is being held for 234 Assembly constituencies, marking a significant event in the political calendar.

The principal contest appears to be between the DMK-led alliance, which includes the Indian National Congress, DMDK, and VCK, and the National Democratic Alliance led by AIADMK, which is collaborating with the BJP and PMK. The DMK is focusing on its welfare initiatives, whilst the AIADMK-led coalition is striving to regain its foothold.

Alongside traditional electoral players, actor Vijay’s party, TVK, is entering the political fray, potentially making the elections a competitive three-way contest. The involvement of a prominent figure like Vijay may attract considerable attention from the electorates, thereby influencing voting patterns.
