Sonia Gandhi, the chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, made her debut on Instagram on Thursday, revealing the first look of her upcoming memoir titled “Belonging: A Journey of Love.” The memoir is set to be released on November 10. In her inaugural post, the 79-year-old Congress leader expressed her gratitude to her followers while introducing the book. She stated, “Hello everyone, I’m truly grateful to share this moment with you all; the first look of Belonging: A Journey of Love.”
Gandhi described the memoir as a narrative encompassing themes of love, duty, loss, and the quest for belonging. She expressed her eagerness to share her story with the public, highlighting the personal nature of the work. The memoir chronicles her journey from her childhood in post-war Italy to her relationship with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, alongside the personal tragedies that have influenced her life and her connection to India.
Memoir Explores Personal History and Family Tragedies
The book delves into Sonia Gandhi’s formative years in Italy, her romance with Rajiv Gandhi during their time at Cambridge, and the profound losses she experienced, including the assassinations of her mother-in-law, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and her husband, Rajiv Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi was just 19 years old when she met Rajiv Gandhi in Cambridge in 1965, and they married on February 25, 1968.
As the longest-serving president of the Congress party, Sonia Gandhi’s memoir is anticipated to provide a personal perspective on love, identity, and duty, as well as her experiences as a member of the prominent Nehru-Gandhi family and her life in India. Her son, Rahul Gandhi, has previously expressed enthusiasm regarding the book, particularly on the occasion of his father’s 82nd birthday. He remarked that he was proud that his mother’s story would reach a wide audience, acknowledging the challenges she faced in sharing her private life with the public.
Rahul Gandhi stated, “I am happy, and so proud, that your story–‘Belonging: A Journey of Love’–will finally be read by the millions of people who love you. I know how hard it was for someone as private as you to tell the world your beautiful story.”
Publication Challenges in India
<h4″The memoir is set to be published internationally by Alfred A Knopf, an imprint of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, on November 10. The announcement regarding the book’s release was made on August 18.
