Sonal Chauhan Stranded in Dubai Amid Middle East Crisis, Appeals to PM Modi for Help

The CSR Journal Magazine

Bollywood actress Sonal Chauhan, known for roles in films like Jannat, has shared that she is currently stranded in Dubai amid widening tensions in the Middle East that have severely disrupted international air travel. The actress took to social media on February 28 to appeal for government assistance as flight operations remain suspended and her return to India hangs in uncertainty.

In an Instagram post, Chauhan wrote, “Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji, I am currently stranded in Dubai amid the ongoing crisis, with flights cancelled and no clear way to return to India. I respectfully seek the Government’s guidance for a safe journey home.” She expressed gratitude for any support and tagging the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian missions in the UAE.

Airspace Closures Trigger Widespread Flight Cancellations

The travel disruptions stem from escalating regional hostilities involving the United States, Israel and Iran, which have led to temporary closures of airspace over several Middle Eastern countries and prompted the suspension of flights at major airport hubs including Dubai International Airport.

The Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation reported that over 410 flights operated by domestic carriers were cancelled on February 28, and approximately 444 more were expected to be cancelled on March 1, affecting routes to Europe, the United States, Canada and the Middle East.

These disruptions have left thousands of passengers stranded at terminals, with airlines offering options for rebooking, refunds and flexible travel arrangements where possible. Civil aviation bodies are closely monitoring developments as the situation evolves.

Indian Embassy Issues Advisory to Nationals

In response to the unrest, the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai have issued advisories to Indian nationals living in or travelling through the UAE. The advisory urges citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, remain vigilant and follow local safety guidelines. The missions confirmed that consular operations are continuing normally and that emergency assistance is available.

The advisory also provided contact details for Indian citizens needing urgent help, including a toll-free number and WhatsApp contact for consular support.

Broader Impact and Ongoing Uncertainties

The aviation turmoil reflects broader instability in regional geopolitics following missile strikes and counter-strikes that have disrupted normal operations. Passengers at Dubai and other major airports have shared images and videos of crowded terminals and frustrated travellers unsure when flights will resume.

Alongside Chauhan, other Indian personalities including sports figures like PV Sindhu have also been reported among those affected by cancellations and suspended services. The situation remains fluid as airlines and aviation authorities adjust schedules and infrastructure to cope with the crisis.
