Sachin Pilot Claims ‘Understanding’ Between BJP and LDF, Slams Pinarayi Vijayan

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a recent political statement, Congress leader Sachin Pilot asserted that there exists an unspoken agreement between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala, which he believes benefits both parties. Pilot claimed that this arrangement conveniently suits Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He was quoted saying, “It suits the PM to have the same CM. It suits the CM to have the same PM,” highlighting what he sees as mutual political gain.

Addressing the BJP’s status within Kerala, Pilot noted that the party holds no seats in the state legislature and lacks the capacity to form a government. He observed that the BJP’s strategy appears to be aimed at reducing the vote share for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) rather than vying for power directly. According to Pilot, the BJP understands that it cannot secure governance in Kerala and hence is focused on hindering Congress, thereby facilitating a third term for the LDF.

Critique of Candidate Selection and Allegations Against Rahul Gandhi

Pilot raised concerns regarding the candidates presented by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), alleging that many of them are unlikely to succeed and seem to have been chosen with the intention of splitting votes. This leads to questions about the NDA’s approach leading into the upcoming electoral battle. Furthermore, Pilot dismissed remarks made by Chief Minister Vijayan regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, labelling them as “the most laughable comment I’ve ever heard.”

In addition, Pilot accused Vijayan of being linked to a corruption case that has reportedly been stalled in the Supreme Court for several years. He suggested that the multiple deferrals of the case could not merely be coincidental, raising further suspicions about the Chief Minister’s integrity.

Highlighting the ongoing tensions, Pilot suggested that the political discourse in Kerala is marred by allegations and counter-allegations, impacting both public perception and governance.

Concerns Over Governance and Spending

Pilot also scrutinised the extensive publicity campaigns in Kerala, questioning the need for such expenditure if the government’s performance is as commendable as claimed. He noted the omnipresence of hoardings displaying the Chief Minister and raised concerns over the reported expenditure of “hundreds of crores” on these campaigns. He argued, “If the track record was so impeccable and people are so happy, they wouldn’t have to spend so much money,” implying that this spending serves as an electioneering tactic rather than a genuine reflection of achievement.

He suggested that the LDF’s heavy focus on publicity indicates insecurity regarding its standing among voters and masks underlying issues with governance. Pilot maintained that real progress would be evident through public satisfaction rather than through promotional material.

Furthermore, he addressed the BJP’s performance in parliamentary elections, noting that despite acquiring votes, it only secured one seat out of twenty. Pilot argued that this trend would likely carry over into future state elections, indicating voters are aware that the BJP lacks the organisational structure to form a government in Kerala. He concluded that such knowledge would lead voters away from the BJP, likely favouring the LDF’s bid for another term.
