RCB vs GT, IPL 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru Chase Down 205 to Beat Gujarat Titans by 5 Wickets

The CSR Journal Magazine

Royal Challengers Bengaluru pulled off a clinical run chase to defeat Gujarat Titans by five wickets in Match 34 of the Indian Premier League 2026. Chasing a challenging target of 206, RCB reached 206/5 in 19.4 overs after Gujarat Titans had earlier posted 205/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Gill, Sudharsan Power Titans to 200+ Total

Batting first, Gujarat Titans produced a strong batting display led by Shubman Gill, who anchored the innings with a fluent knock at the top. He combined effectively with Sai Sudharsan as the duo stitched together a substantial opening partnership, laying a solid foundation.

Gill paced his innings well, rotating strike and capitalising on loose deliveries, while Sudharsan provided momentum with timely boundaries. The pair ensured Gujarat crossed the 100-run mark without significant damage. In the latter stages, the middle order added quick runs, with David Miller contributing a brisk cameo to push the total beyond 200.

RCB’s bowlers struggled for breakthroughs through the middle overs, though they managed to contain the damage slightly at the death. Despite that, Gujarat Titans finished strongly at 205/3, a total that appeared competitive on a good batting surface.

Kohli Leads RCB’s Composed Chase

In reply, RCB approached the chase with intent and composure. Virat Kohli played a central role, anchoring the innings with a measured yet impactful knock. He built key partnerships at the top, ensuring the required run rate remained under control.

Captain Faf du Plessis provided early impetus, while the middle order chipped in at crucial moments to maintain momentum. Even as Gujarat picked up wickets intermittently, RCB never allowed the game to drift away.

The turning point came during the middle overs when RCB accelerated through calculated aggression, reducing the equation significantly. Despite a brief wobble with a couple of quick wickets, the lower middle order held their nerve. A composed finish in the final over ensured RCB crossed the line with two balls to spare, completing a successful chase of 206.

Late Nerves, Clinical Finish Seal the Game

Gujarat Titans’ bowlers, including their experienced spin attack, found it difficult to contain RCB on a surface that offered little assistance. While they managed to break partnerships at intervals, they lacked the sustained pressure required to defend a big total.

RCB’s disciplined approach in pacing the chase proved decisive. They avoided panic even when wickets fell and capitalised on scoring opportunities in the death overs. The balance between aggression and control allowed them to stay ahead in the contest.

Virat Kohli was named Player of the Match for his match-defining innings that anchored the chase under pressure. The victory provides RCB with crucial momentum in the tournament, boosting their position in the standings, while Gujarat Titans will look to address their bowling concerns.

The next IPL fixture sees Delhi Capitals take on Punjab Kings on April 25. Gujarat Titans are scheduled to face Chennai Super Kings on April 26, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru will meet Delhi Capitals on April 27 as they aim to build on this result.
