Ram Gopal Varma Cancels Sarkar 4 Plans Following Dhurandhar Success

The CSR Journal Magazine

Renowned director Ram Gopal Varma has announced a significant change in his filmmaking plans, deciding to drop the much-anticipated project Sarkar 4. This decision comes in the wake of the success of Dhurandhar and its sequel, which have evidently influenced Varma’s creative direction.

The filmmaker, who had intended to commence shooting for Sarkar 4 with actors Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in April, expressed doubts about the viability of gangster films in the current cinematic landscape. He attributed this shift to the impact of Dhurandhar, stating that the film’s narrative and integrity made him reevaluate his approach to filmmaking.

Varma’s Reflection on His Previous Works

Varma candidly reflected on his earlier works, explaining that many of his gangster films were inspired by The Godfather. He acknowledged that some projects, such as Daud and Phoonk, lacked a specific purpose beyond his desire to create. He revealed that he once viewed filmmaking with a degree of arrogance, believing that simply being on set would lead to a successful production.

This self-reflection suggests that Dhurandhar has had a profound impact on his perspective. Varma praised director Aditya Dhar for his honest intention behind creating Dhurandhar, mentioning that it was not merely an attempt to make a statement, but rather a genuine storytelling endeavor. This admiration has led Varma to feel a renewed sense of purpose in his creative work.

Introduction of a New Project, Syndicate

In light of this renewed energy, Varma is set to embark on a new project titled Syndicate, stepping away from the Sarkar franchise. While he emphasized that Syndicate would not attempt to replicate the essence of Dhurandhar, he assured that it would be approached with sincerity and dedication. The filmmaker expressed excitement for this venture, comparing his current enthusiasm to what he experienced during the making of his earlier iconic films such as Shiva and Satya.

As Varma prepares to direct Syndicate, he acknowledges the uncertainty surrounding the film’s outcome but believes it represents his most authentic work since Satya. His willingness to adapt and shift focus underscores his commitment to evolving as a director in the contemporary film industry.
