Former Agniveers to Get Direct Gujarat Police Recruitment Without Written Test

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, Harsh Sanghavi, has declared that ex-Agniveers will be recruited directly into the Gujarat Police without the need for a written examination. This decision aims to facilitate the entry of former Agniveers into the police force as part of a larger initiative under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the Central Government. This initiative recognises the service and dedication of Agniveers who have previously served the nation at its borders.

Changes to Recruitment Process

In a significant development, the Gujarat government has previously exempted former Agniveers from the Physical Efficiency Test as well. With these exemptions in place, eligibility for applicants wishing to join the police force has become markedly easier. Sanghavi also noted that these former Agniveers will benefit from a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit for recruitment purposes, thereby broadening the pool of candidates.

The latest modifications to the recruitment rules were revealed on October 9, following amendments from the Home Department. These changes specifically indicate that former Agniveers will no longer be required to take a written exam for designated uniformed police posts. The official resolution detailing these adjustments will clarify the recruitment process, including eligibility criteria and specific conditions for all involved.

Reservation for Agniveers in Recruitment

An important aspect of this recruitment initiative is the reservation policy in place for former Agniveers. On July 17, the Gujarat government introduced a 20 per cent reservation for ex-serving personnel of the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force. This reservation is applicable to those who are either natives, original inhabitants, or permanent residents of Gujarat, provided they meet all eligibility requirements.

According to the amended recruitment rules, the Home Department has implemented a new provision, Rule 5A, which follows the original Rule 5. This addition pertains specifically to the exemptions for ex-Agniveers regarding the written examination for direct recruitment. The new regulations are anticipated to come into effect immediately upon publication in the Official Gazette, ensuring that the recruitment process can start promptly.

The proactive measures being taken by the Gujarat government reflect its commitment to recognise and leverage the skills of former Agniveers. By easing the entry process into the police force, the state aims to not only honour the service of these individuals but also to enhance the capabilities of its law enforcement agencies.
