Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory for October 12 Diversions Amid Congress Protest March

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi Traffic Police has announced potential traffic disruptions and diversions across multiple locations in the capital on October 12. This advisory comes in response to the Congress party’s planned protest march towards the Supreme Court. Traffic diversions will commence at 6 am on the specified date, subject to the prevailing circumstances.

According to the advisory, significant bottlenecks may occur at major junctions, flyovers, and various roads within New Delhi and Central Delhi. The police have indicated that the movement of vehicles could be affected in light of the anticipated law and order situation.

The traffic advisory specifically highlights a number of areas where commuters may experience delays. These include the Roundabout Shankar Road-Vande Matram ‘T’ Point towards New Delhi, Dhaula Kuan Flyover, and several key roundabouts such as Jhandewalan and Mandi House.

Other Affected Areas

In addition to the primary locations noted, further affected stretches include Chemsford Road-Outer Circle Connaught Place T-Point, Lodhi Road Flyover, and Roundabout Neela Gumbad. Traffic disruptions may also extend to Roundabout Ashoka Road-Jantar Mantar Road, Outer Circle Connaught Place-Barakhamba Road T-Point, and other busy intersections throughout the capital.

The advisory instructs commuters intending to travel to railway stations, interstate bus terminals, or the airport through New Delhi and Central Delhi to prepare their journeys in advance. The police recommend allowing for additional travel time due to these predicted disruptions.

Passengers are encouraged to plan accordingly, as the traffic police assert the importance of anticipating possible delays. “Please keep extra travel time in hand if heading towards railway stations, ISBTs, or the airport via New Delhi and Central Delhi,” the advisory indicated.

Context of the Protest March

The Congress protest march is part of a broader demonstration against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, alongside calls for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition leaders and members of several INDIA bloc parties are expected to take part in the march on the morning of October 12.

On October 11, after heavy police presence led to the detention of numerous protestors, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has called for unity among youth, opposition parties, and civil society. He has urged constituents to march to the Supreme Court, emphasising the need to overcome fear with the message “Daro mat.”

Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, has responded to requests from INDIA bloc leaders for a meeting to submit a representation regarding alleged electoral discrepancies. He stated that such matters should be pursued through a formal petition in court, as the issues are currently sub judice.
