The CSR Journal Magazine

Three Indian nationals who sustained injuries in the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh are currently in intensive care but remain stable, as reported by the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia on Monday. Tragically, one Indian national has died as a result of the incident. In addition to this, two other individuals were admitted to regular hospital facilities, while some injured parties have since been discharged.

Details About the Victim

The deceased individual has been identified as Mohammed Yousuf, a 46-year-old IT professional from Hyderabad. He was travelling with his family for the Umrah pilgrimage at the time of the attack. His wife and three children were also injured during the incident and are receiving treatment at a hospital in Riyadh. Yousuf’s family was reportedly near a check-in kiosk when a projectile struck the airport premises around 3 pm local time on October 10.

The attack occurred while the family was preparing to travel to Madinah, resulting in serious injuries for Yousuf, who later succumbed to his wounds. Currently, his wife and children are still under medical observation, receiving necessary care.

The Indian Embassy has ensured that it is actively engaging with the families of the affected individuals, providing updates on their condition and medical treatment. In a statement via the social media platform X, embassy officials confirmed that they visited all hospitals where injured Indian nationals were being treated, and extended gratitude to Saudi authorities for their prompt medical assistance.

Background of the Attack

This incident has occurred amid a series of attacks targeting various locations within Saudi Arabia. On October 10, a projectile hit the airport, which was reportedly one of several assaults in recent days aimed at civilian areas. The Saudi-led coalition, which is engaged in military action against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, has publicly acknowledged the missile attacks.

Further attacks were reported on October 11, targeting King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, situated in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom. The Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for these assaults, intensifying concerns regarding the ongoing conflict in the region. Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation confirmed the targeting of multiple airport facilities, raising alarms regarding passenger safety and security in the area.

The situation remains fluid, with authorities monitoring developments and providing updates. The Indian government has pledged to offer assistance to the victims’ families and is coordinating with Saudi officials to ensure they receive the necessary support during this difficult time.
