Political Shift in Bihar: Nitish Kumar Submits Rajya Sabha Nomination in Patna in Presence of Amit Shah

The CSR Journal Magazine

On March 5, significant political developments unfolded in Bihar as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar officially filed his nomination for a Rajya Sabha seat in Patna, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in attendance. Kumar, who is one of the longest-serving Chief Ministers in Bihar’s history, has previously indicated his intention to transition to the Rajya Sabha during this election cycle.

Alongside Kumar, other candidates from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) such as Upendra Kushwaha and BJP state president Nitin Nabin also presented their nominations for the Upper House.

Commitment to Collaborate on Bihar’s Development

Nitish Kumar, aged 75, expressed his commitment to supporting the new Cabinet and reaffirmed his dedication to working for a prosperous Bihar. Through a post on X, he stated, “I aim to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in this election. I assure you that my relationship with you will continue in the future, and my determination to cooperate for a developed Bihar will remain unwavering. The new government will receive my comprehensive cooperation and guidance.” This announcement has drawn attention from various political quarters, particularly from the opposition.

Opposition Responds to Kumar’s Announcement

In response to Kumar’s nomination, Tejashwi Yadav, opposition leader in Bihar, criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that this development validates his previous claims regarding Kumar’s precarious position. Yadav accused the BJP of employing manipulative tactics, suggesting that their election slogan, “2025 se 30 phir se Nitish,” was a guise for undermining Kumar’s leadership. “It is clear that the NDA used various tricks during the elections,” Yadav remarked, indicating that the alliance’s methodologies were questionable.

Yadav’s Assertions Regarding Political Maneuverings

Tejashwi Yadav elaborated on his concerns, arguing that Kumar’s shift to the Rajya Sabha is contrary to the will of the people in Bihar. He characterized the BJP as historically detrimental to its allies and accused the party of being opposed to the interests of backward classes, Dalits, and tribal communities. Yadav stated, “The BJP seeks a leader in Bihar who will merely act as a figurehead. This shift in power contradicts the sentiments of the populace. People are aware of the BJP’s strategies and true nature.” He also noted previous collaborations with Kumar, expressing sympathy for his political situation.

Concerns for Bihar’s Leadership

During his interactions with media personnel, Yadav reiterated his long-held view that the BJP has significantly influenced Kumar’s tenure. He stated metaphorically, “They have placed Nitish Kumar on a horse for a wedding but are conducting the rituals with someone else.” He maintained that Kumar’s desire to move to the Rajya Sabha reinforces their long-standing assertion that the BJP would not allow him to retain the Chief Minister’s position following the elections. Yadav expressed that this situation has now come to fruition.
