Parents of NYC Bombing Suspect Reside in $2.25 Million Pennsylvania Home

The CSR Journal Magazine

The parents of Ibrahim Kayumi, one of two individuals charged in connection with an attempted bombing near New York City’s Gracie Mansion, are naturalized citizens who immigrated from Afghanistan. They own a substantial suburban residence in Newtown, Pennsylvania, valued at approximately $2.25 million.

Kayumi, aged 19, along with 18-year-old Emir Balat, both from Pennsylvania, were arrested last week after homemade explosive devices were thrown during a protest near the official residence of the Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani. Fortunately, the devices did not explode, and there were no injuries reported. Authorities are investigating the incident as a potential act of terrorism inspired by ISIS.

Details of the Properties

Public records indicate that Kayumi’s family resides in a sizable home that spans 5,800 square feet and includes six bedrooms and five bathrooms. The assessed value of the property ranges from $2.2 million to $2.25 million. Law enforcement has confirmed that Kayumi’s parents became naturalized U.S. citizens in 2004 and 2009, respectively. However, there is currently no publicly available evidence linking them to the alleged bombing attempt, as the focus of the investigation remains solely on the actions of the two suspects involved.

Emir Balat’s Background

Labeled as the second suspect in this case, Emir Balat is also a naturalized U.S. citizen. His parents originally hail from Turkey and obtained U.S. citizenship in 2017. Balat resides with his family in Langhorne, Bucks County, in a home valued at approximately $653,000. Like Kayumi’s residence, Balat’s home has come under scrutiny following the incident.

Investigative Actions by Law Enforcement

Following the attempted bombing, the FBI executed search warrants at both Kayumi’s and Balat’s family homes as part of the ongoing terrorism investigation. Authorities have collected evidence from both locations. Despite these actions, no charges have been filed against any family members in connection with the incident.

Details of the Bombing Attempt

According to law enforcement and prosecutors, both Kayumi and Balat were present at the protest when the improvised explosive devices, which have been described as potentially dangerous, were launched. Reports indicate that at least one of the devices contained volatile materials commonly used in international terrorist attacks. These devices were assembled with nuts, bolts, and a fuse encased within a jar, indicating a serious level of intent to cause harm.
