India Ready to Assist Nepal Following Severe Flash Floods Crisis: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed India’s deep concern regarding the severe flash floods affecting Nepal, confirming that the nation is poised to extend all necessary assistance. During a press conference in Lucknow, Singh conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurance that India would provide any support Nepal may require amidst this crisis.

“The current situation in Nepal is alarming not only for its citizens but also for us in India. The Prime Minister has explicitly stated that we are ready to assist in whatever capacity needed, and we are already in the process of sending aid continuously,” Singh said.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the death toll from the flood-related incidents in Nepal has tragically reached 626, with 2,426 individuals reported missing. The latest update from the NDRRMA, released at 10 am on August 29, highlighted that Chitwan had recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 233 bodies, including human remains, discovered in the area.

Further fatalities were reported in various regions, including Nawalparasi East where 158 deaths occurred, Nuwakot with 51, Gorkha tallying 48, Nawalparasi West 47, Dhading 45, Tanahun 31, and Rasua 13. Additional areas impacted by the floods also reported loss of life.

The NDRRMA noted that among those unaccounted for are 27 personnel from the Nepal Police, 45 from the Nepal Army, 13 members of the Armed Police Force, 15 Customs Office employees, and four Immigration Office staff, underscoring the extensive impact of this disaster.

India has been active in coordinating relief and rescue missions in response to the calamity affecting Nepal. Authorities are diligently monitoring the situation, especially focusing on the welfare of Indian nationals caught in the disaster’s aftermath.

Nepal’s President Ramchandra Paudel has also publicly thanked India for its prompt support and solidarity in this difficult time, acknowledging the humanitarian efforts being made. In addition to expressing gratitude, Paudel lamented the loss of Indian nationals during the floods in Nepal.

The tragic situation has drawn considerable attention from various quarters, prompting discussions on collaborative efforts between India and Nepal to mitigate the effects of natural disasters. India’s proactive stance in offering assistance is a testament to the long-standing ties between the two nations.

With the situation still developing, both countries are expected to maintain open lines of communication as they address the ongoing challenges posed by the floods. Efforts will likely continue in the days ahead to provide timely support to those affected and to locate the missing individuals.
