NIA Detains Two Jammu and Kashmir Residents Linked to Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind in Connection with Delhi Car Bombing

The CSR Journal Magazine

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended two individuals from Jammu and Kashmir allegedly associated with the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH) terrorist organization. The arrests were made as part of the ongoing investigation into the Delhi Red Fort car bombing that took place on November 10, resulting in multiple casualties.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Zameer Ahmad Ahangar from Ganderbal and Tufail Ahmad Bhat from Srinagar, both recognized as over-ground workers (OGWs) for the AGH. This brings the total number of arrests connected to this case to eleven.

Roles in the Conspiracy

The NIA has stated that Zameer and Tufail played significant roles in the planning and execution of the conspiracy associated with the car bomb incident. Their involvement included supplying firearms to the primary suspect in the Delhi blast case. The agency indicated that their investigations, conducted alongside Jammu and Kashmir Police and other law enforcement agencies, revealed that the two were engaged in various terror-related activities, which included the procurement of weapons intended for use against the Indian state.

Details of the Terror Plot

The inquiry has identified Umar as the mastermind behind the Delhi blast, with several other individuals, including Muzammil Ganai, Shaheen Saeed, Mufti Irfan, Adeel Ahmed Rather, and five others, implicated in providing support and shelter to the primary conspirators. A total of nine suspects have been previously apprehended from different areas across Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. Among them, Yasir Ahmad Dar from Shopian was also captured from the national capital.

Impact of the Attack

The November 10 explosion claimed the lives of fifteen people and caused numerous injuries. Umar Un Nabi, the main suspect, died in the blast. The NIA has also arrested Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla, who allegedly offered logistical support to the deceased bomber, as well as Soyab from Faridabad, who reportedly provided shelter to Umar Un Nabi shortly before the car bombing. During interrogation, Soyab admitted to facilitating the terrorist’s movements prior to the attack.

Ongoing Investigations and Arrests

The NIA’s investigation has seen multiple arrests, including four suspects—Shaheen Saeed, Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganai, Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather, and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay—who were detained in Srinagar on specific production orders. Earlier, Amir Rashid Ali, who registered the car used in the bombing, and Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, who assisted the attackers technically, were also arrested. Efforts continue to identify and apprehend additional members of the terrorist network involved.

Search Operations and Findings

Since taking over the investigation post-attack, the NIA has executed several searches in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh, recovering digital devices and other items deemed incriminating. In two days of operations in late November, substantial amounts of cash, foreign currency, and gold were seized from the residences of key suspects, including Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganai and Dr. Shaheen Saeed in Haryana. The agency has analyzed evidence that indicates Amir’s presence in Delhi facilitated the purchase of the vehicle that was ultimately modified into an improvised explosive device (IED).

Forensic Developments

Forensic investigations have confirmed that the individual who drove the vehicle-borne IED was Umar, an Assistant Professor at Al Falah University in Faridabad. The NIA has also taken possession of another vehicle belonging to him. To date, 73 witnesses, including individuals injured in the blast, have been interviewed as part of the investigation.
