A group of young individuals engaged in filming a social media reel found themselves in a perilous situation when their Mahindra Scorpio became ensnared in the turbulent waters of the Sindh River in Sonamarg, Jammu and Kashmir. This incident occurred close to Hotel Sindh Resorts, where the driver allegedly navigated the SUV into the riverbed while attempting to perform stunts for the camera.

As the vehicle entered the fast-flowing water, it soon became trapped in the strong current. The occupants were effectively cut off and at significant risk of being swept away by the powerful waters. Initial reports indicate that the pressure of the water caused the vehicle to become increasingly unstable, highlighting the dangers associated with such reckless behaviour.

Upon receiving news of the situation, personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police quickly rushed to the scene. Local residents, alerted to the ongoing peril, also participated in the rescue efforts, demonstrating a commendable level of community support. Together, they worked diligently to evacuate all individuals from the vehicle and safely transport them back to solid ground.

The driver was named as Mohd Ibad Bhat, hailing from Nawakadal in Srinagar, while another occupant was identified as Naseer Ahmad Mugal, a local from Mahore in Reasi. Their actions during the incident have raised serious concerns regarding public safety and the responsibility of individuals in such reckless endeavours.

Police representatives stated that operating the vehicle in the river whilst attempting to record videos constituted gross negligence. This act reportedly posed immediate risks not just to the occupants, but also to the public. An official case has been filed in relation to the incident, focusing on implications surrounding public safety violations.

In light of this incident, local authorities have reiterated their warnings to both tourists and local youths regarding the dangers of performing stunts around mountain rivers and similar water bodies.
