Munawar Faruqui Urges Cessation of Online Trolling Against Pranit More

The CSR Journal Magazine

Munawar Faruqui has implored the public to cease the online harassment directed towards fellow comedian Pranit More and others involved in a recent controversy arising from remarks made during a comedy performance. In an Instagram video, which has since gained widespread attention on social media, Faruqui clarified that those implicated, including Himanshu Jangra and Sejal Pawar, have already faced significant repercussions. He stated that the matter should not be exacerbated by further public discourse or ridicule.

Faruqui expressed his disapproval of the comments made during the crowd-work segment of More’s show, acknowledging that both More and an audience member made inappropriate remarks. He conveyed that while he understood public outrage, there should be a threshold to that anger. His video, although currently unavailable on his Instagram account, resonates with a growing sentiment among many users online.

Consequences of Remarks

In his statement, Faruqui highlighted the severe ramifications resulting from the controversial remarks, mentioning that an official complaint, or FIR, had already been filed. He pointed out that several individuals involved in the incident have suffered career setbacks and reputational damage. Faruqui articulated that enough has transpired as a result of the comments, urging the public to refrain from escalating the issue for the sake of social media engagement.

Faruqui stated, “The comedian said something very wrong, and what happened during the crowd-work segment was also deeply problematic. I did not like hearing any of it, but there has to be a limit.” He underscored the fact that those involved have already faced significant challenges due to their statements and urged the community to draw a line in their reactions.

Addressing the impacted individuals, he noted, “They have already suffered enough for what they have said. There comes a point when too much outrage can lead to irreversible consequences.” His comments reflect a growing concern about the potential fallout from extreme public criticism and the responsibility that comes with public discourse.

Details of the Incident

The controversy originated from a clip of Pranit More’s stand-up performance in Gurugram, where audience member Himanshu Jangra made a remark about his spending of Rs 370 on a plate of chicken biryani. He suggested that his expenditure granted him the right to expect something in return. This statement sparked a significant backlash online, particularly against More for allowing such comments to go unchallenged during the performance.

The situation escalated with the emergence of a video featuring Sejal Pawar, in which she made disparaging remarks about medical cadavers and male anatomy used for educational purposes. This further ignited public outrage and contributed to the calls for accountability from all parties involved.

In response to the backlash, Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, and Sejal Pawar issued separate apologies through video statements. More also released a subsequent apology, appealing to the public for a chance to make amends and demonstrate personal growth.
