Mumbai Airport Receives Threat Call to Bomb IndiGo Flight After Operation Sindoor

Amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the operation Sindoor fresh bomb threat was received late Wednesday. The bomb threat was received in the night via a phone call to the Sahar Airport hotline in Mumbai. The caller warned of an explosive device on board an IndiGo flight arriving from Chandigarh.

However, the aircraft landed safely at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Following the landing the plane was immediately secured in an isolated area for inspection.

Furthermore, the security agencies launched a full-scale emergency response on the spot, and the aircraft was thoroughly searched. No suspicious items were found during the operation. Investigations into the source and credibility of the threat are currently underway.

Threat Coincides with Military Action Against Terror Camps

According to reports, the bomb threat came hours after India carried out a series of precision airstrikes as part of Operation Sindoor. This operation targeted nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Following the attack the Indian Armed Forces confirmed the strikes in a statement issued at 2 a.m. on Wednesday. The army identified the targets as facilities linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen.

India launched the air strikes in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, Jammu and Kashmir, that killed 26 innocent civilians.

IndiGo Flights Disrupted

Meanwhile, in the wake of Operation Sindoor, IndiGo Airlines reported significant disruptions to its flight services. The airline in a post on X (formerly Twitter) wrote “Due to changing airspace conditions in the region, our flights to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh and Dharamshala are impacted. We request you to check your flight status at https://bit.ly/31paVKQ before reaching the airport”. A later update also included disruptions to flights in and out of Bikaner.

Reports from government authorities have indicated that Indian airspace is being closely monitored due to heightened security concerns in the state. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is overseeing the situation and emphasised that passenger safety remains the top priority amid the rising tensions.

Meanwhile the authorities have not yet confirmed whether the bomb threat is connected to the Indian military operation. However, the timing has raised concerns over possible retaliatory threats or attempts at disruption following Operation Sindoor’s strikes on terror camps.
