Kia has officially launched the PV7 electric van, the second entry in its dedicated PBV electric range following the PV5. This larger vehicle will be available in two variants: Passenger and Cargo. The Passenger version can accommodate up to eleven individuals, while the Cargo variant is designed for a payload capacity of up to 1,200kg. The PV7 is scheduled to hit markets in South Korea and Europe during the latter half of 2027.

Powertrain Specifications and Features

The PV7 is constructed on Kia’s E-GMP.S electric vehicle platform and offers two battery sizes: a 71.5kWh pack and a more substantial 96.2kWh unit. Both options are coupled with a front-mounted electric motor, generating a maximum of 200kW (268hp) and 420Nm of torque. The Long Range Cargo version is claimed to achieve a WLTP range exceeding 460km. Initially, the van will feature front-wheel drive, while an all-wheel-drive variant equipped with a dual-motor system is anticipated for future release.

This electric van supports 800V charging, allowing the battery to rise from 10 to 80 per cent in around twenty minutes when using a 350kW DC fast charger. It is equipped with two charging ports, including a front ACDC port and an optional rear AC charging port. A notable feature includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, enabling the van to power tools and other devices. Additionally, the Cargo version comes with a heavy-load driving mode that tailors the vehicle’s performance according to the load.

The Cargo variant is tailored for logistics and delivery services. It is available in Compact, Long, and High Roof configurations, with seating arrangements ranging from two to three depending on the region. The Cargo Long version provides up to 6.1 cubic metres of storage space, while the High Roof variant offers up to 8.0 cubic metres. Its payload capacity is rated at a maximum of 1,165kg for the Long version and 1,200kg for the Compact.

Passenger and Cargo Options

The Passenger version of the PV7 caters to shuttle services, crew transport, and private usage. It features a maximum capacity of nine occupants in international markets and eleven in South Korea. A configuration with seven removable seats is available, allowing for flexibility in cabin space when needed. Options for a fourth row add versatility, while features such as rear climate control and multiple USB-C charging ports enhance passenger comfort.

The Cargo van includes practical design elements like a load-through bulkhead and independent locking for cargo doors, alongside the choice of either a standard lift-up tailgate or a twin-swing tailgate for convenience in tight loading scenarios. Other enhancements for the Cargo variant include improved entry and exit features tailored for commercial use.

Interior Design and Safety Features

The PV7’s cockpit comes equipped with an impressive 14.6-inch central display alongside a 12.9-inch screen, and it operates using Kia’s Pleos Connect system, which is based on Android Automotive OS. This system offers connected navigation, a suite of third-party applications, and over-the-air updates. An AI-driven voice assistant, Gleo AI, allows users to control vehicle functions naturally through voice commands.

Safety features are comprehensive, comprising seven airbags, including a roof-mounted airbag for the front passenger. A suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) includes functionalities such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Remote Smart Parking Assist, ensuring a secure driving experience.

The design of the PV7 builds upon the front-end styling introduced with the PV5, showcasing a cab-forward design with a more substantial and upright appearance. Both variants feature distinctive design elements, including the signature Kia lighting setup with hidden headlamps.

Kia plans to eventually expand the PV7 lineup to 23 different variants, accommodating various body styles and conversion options. The van will be showcased at the IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany, scheduled from 15 to 20 September. Currently, there are no announcements regarding the release of the PV7 in India.
