Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has revealed that the government plans to construct hostel facilities designed to accommodate 10,000 students enrolled in local colleges and universities. This development comes in the wake of a tragic incident on September 6, 2026, when a five-storey building, used as a private boys’ hostel, collapsed in Satya Niketan, a neighbourhood popular among students near Delhi University’s South Campus. The collapse resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including five students and two labourers. The building was situated opposite Sri Venkateswara College and was reportedly serving as accommodation for students.

Following this tragedy, the Chief Minister’s announcement reflects a pressing need for improved housing conditions for students in the area.
