The CSR Journal Magazine

A 24-year-old man was shot and killed outside a police recruitment examination centre in Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, on June 9, 2026. The incident reportedly occurred as Akanksha, a resident of Shamli district, arrived at Gochar Inter College to take her exam. Her husband, Shiv Kumar, was waiting outside when he allegedly faced the attack.

The attack took place in the Rampur Maniharan police station area, where witnesses stated that Akanksha’s brother, identified as Manjeet, allegedly approached and shot Shiv Kumar at close range, striking him in the head. This act of violence caused immediate panic among those present at the examination centre.

Local residents notified the police, who quickly arrived at the scene and transported the wounded Shiv Kumar to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, he was declared dead upon arrival by medical staff.

Background of the Victim

In an official statement to law enforcement, Akanksha explained that she had wed Shiv Kumar approximately four months prior, in a love marriage. She claimed that her family had expressed strong disapproval of their union from the beginning. This familial opposition has been suggested as a possible motive behind the alleged killing.

Shiv Kumar’s brother, Shivam Kumar, echoed Akanksha’s sentiments, alleging that their family played a role in orchestrating the murder. He has called for stringent legal action against those involved in the incident.

The unfolding drama has cast a spotlight on issues surrounding love marriages in the region, particularly where family acceptance is concerned. Investigators are keen to determine the extent of familial involvement in this tragic event.

Investigation and Response

In the aftermath of the shooting, senior police officers promptly arrived at the site to initiate an investigation. Forensic teams were dispatched to gather evidence from the crime scene and interview witnesses who may have observed the incident. Authorities are keen to ascertain the events leading up to the shooting.

The deceased’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and police officials have indicated that a case will be formally registered based on the complaint from Akanksha and her family. Efforts are currently underway to locate and apprehend the suspect, Manjeet.

The local community has expressed shock and disbelief at the sudden violence outside a venue meant for civil service recruitment. Investigators are examining the possibility that the opposition to the couple’s recent love marriage may be directly related to the motive behind this heinous act.
