Maharashtra to Establish State CSR Cell to Boost Local Development Across Urban and Rural Areas

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Maharashtra government has announced a series of measures aimed at strengthening local development through more effective use of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said CSR resources should be systematically channelled through a dedicated State CSR Cell to accelerate infrastructure growth and improve public services across the state.

The proposed State CSR Cell will focus on ensuring transparent and efficient utilisation of CSR funds for local development projects. A larger share of these resources will be directed towards local self-government bodies to support civic infrastructure and essential services.

The government is also exploring an interest-free financing model, inspired by schemes of the Central government, to provide financial support for development works. In a bid to improve governance, Maharashtra plans to introduce a digital platform for granting construction permissions, aimed at increasing transparency and curbing misuse of powers.

Additionally, authorities will undertake property mapping under the Naksha Yojana and strengthen mechanisms to check illegal constructions, particularly in semi-urban areas. The initiative is expected to enhance urban planning, digital governance and grassroots development throughout Maharashtra.
