The Kalinga Literary Festival (KLF) is set to organise the Ek Bharat Anek Bol Literary Festival from December 18 to 20, 2026, at Travancore Palace in New Delhi. This three-day event aims to honour India’s rich multilingual literary traditions while fostering dialogue across various languages, cultures, and generational perspectives.

India’s literary landscape is characterised by its diversity, encompassing a vast array of languages and cultural expressions. The festival will serve as a collective platform where these different literary forms can intersect and be appreciated together. It will feature discussions relating to India’s classical languages, as well as regional, tribal, and endangered linguistic systems.

The essence of Ek Bharat Anek Bol lies in its theme, “Confluence of Linguistic & Cultural Diversity,” which seeks to unify the myriad of languages and literary traditions that coexist in the country. Rashmi Ranjan Parida, the Founder-Director of KLF, emphasised that the plurality of voices is fundamental to the festival’s mission.

Wide-Ranging Programme with Diverse Topics

While literature will be the focal point of the festival, it will also engage with contemporary issues that shape society today. The programme will encompass discussions on various subjects, including artificial intelligence, education, sustainability, business, development, sport, and popular culture, alongside traditional literary genres such as poetry and books.

More than 100 authors from across South Asia are expected to participate, with 48 conversations planned over the course of the event. Notable figures, including Padma Bhushan Dr Pratibha Ray, a respected Odia writer and Sahitya Akademi Fellow, have underscored the importance of literature as a reflection of the nation’s soul through its multitude of voices.

A significant component of the discussions will focus on languages at risk of extinction. Topics concerning endangered and indigenous languages will aim to address issues of oral heritage, documentation, and the importance of mother-tongue education, crucial for maintaining linguistic diversity.

Fostering Connections in Literary Traditions

The festival aims to bridge various literary traditions that often flourish within their own linguistic contexts, occasionally leaving significant works inaccessible to readers of other languages. The event will promote how literature can translate itself across languages while preserving the original voice and context.

Prominent scholars, including Professor Jatindra Kumar Nayak, have highlighted the vibrancy of India’s linguistic diversity as a crucial cultural asset. This festival will provide an opportunity to celebrate and explore this diversity, showcasing the richness of multiple narratives rooted in different languages.

Delhi’s status as a cultural hub makes it an ideal location for Ek Bharat Anek Bol. The city is home to numerous universities, publishing houses, cultural institutions, and media organisations, continuously enriched by the languages and traditions of people from across the nation.

KLF also intends to connect Indian-language literature with broader literary networks through collaborations with publishers and cultural institutions. This initiative aims to provide more avenues for Indian literary voices to reach a global audience while engaging with international discussions relevant to India’s literary heritage.
