The attack occurred around 12:30 pm at Lal Chowk in Anantnag, targeting a police unit that was part of the security measures for the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage. Reports indicate that a 35-year-old head constable was shot by suspected militants during this incident, resulting in critical injuries.

After sustaining injuries in the firing, Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi was swiftly transported to the Government Medical College Hospital in Anantnag.
