Investigation into Ram Temple Funds Expands as SIT Directs Officials to Remain in Ayodhya

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) examining allegations of misappropriation of funds associated with the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has mandated that officials of the temple trust and other functionaries remain in Ayodhya. This directive was communicated to the officials prior to the SIT’s departure to Lucknow on Sunday.

Sources connected to the temple noted that investigation reports, which include details of questioning trust officials and related individuals, have been preserved in digital format. These reports are expected to undergo finalisation before being submitted to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

In addition to the requirement for officials to stay in Ayodhya, the SIT is reportedly sending daily updates to the Chief Minister’s Office concerning its findings and progress. This information flow is intended to keep the government informed of significant developments in the investigation.

Broader Scope of Investigation Beyond Fund Misappropriation

Information from temple sources indicates that the SIT’s inquiry extends beyond merely investigating financial irregularities; it also encompasses the purchasing of land by the temple trust over various stages, as well as the acquisition of construction materials for the temple. This wider scope highlights the SIT’s thorough approach to uncovering the full extent of any potential wrongdoing.

Allegations have surfaced regarding the temple trust purchasing land at inflated prices, a matter that has drawn attention from various political factions, notably the Samajwadi Party and the Aam Aadmi Party. These parties have raised concerns about the ethical implications of such practices and have demanded accountability in the management of the temple’s finances.

The investigation was initiated on June 13, 2026, after the Uttar Pradesh government established the SIT following a formal request from the temple trust. The appeal came in light of increasing allegations of improper handling of donations intended for the Ayodhya Ram Temple.

Composition of the Special Investigation Team

The SIT is composed of prominent officials, including Vijay Vishwas Pant, the Lucknow Divisional Commissioner, Kiran S, the Inspector General of Police, and Neel Ratan, Special Secretary of the Finance Department. This diverse panel has been tasked with ensuring a comprehensive investigation into the various claims surrounding the temple’s finances.

As the inquiry progresses, the involvement of high-ranking officials indicates the government’s commitment to addressing public concerns regarding the temple trust’s financial management. Their findings will be pivotal in determining the next steps and any potential ramifications for those involved.

The situation remains fluid, and the continuation of the SIT’s work will likely provide further insights into the operational practices of the Ram Temple trust and the legitimacy of the claims being made against it.
