The Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Suneet Mehta, recently presented 12 agricultural drones to Fiji’s Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Sugar Industry, Tomasi Tunabuna, in Lautoka. This initiative is designed to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of sugarcane production within the nation. The drones were provided as part of commitments made during the visit of Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to New Delhi in August 2022.

The handover ceremony emphasised the significance of this technological gift for the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC). The Indian High Commission in Fiji shared details of this event on social media platform X, underscoring the commitment to bolster agricultural practices in the country. The initiative is seen as a further step in the ongoing collaboration between India and Fiji in the agriculture sector.

According to the statement from the Indian High Commission, the introduction of these drones is anticipated to considerably improve the integration of technology into Fiji’s sugarcane farming processes.
